I'm looking for a flip turn ski and I wanted to see what others have found the most success with. A bunch of my friends on show ski teams have converted old jumpers into their flip turns, while others have found old flat-bottomed skis and reversed the bindings. Others still have gone the easy way out (or smart and efficient way?) and bought one of Seipel's or Lake Elmo's flip turns.

So the question is, what do you use, and what do you recommend? Thanks!

I have a Medalist, it's basically a Siepel/Elmo. It works fine for me but the bigger jumper style skis seem to be more popular. It's not like slalom skiing the course, they all work, just go out there and do it.

Do you mean a flip turn ski for stepping off backwards footing? If that is what you are looking for, I have one that you can have. I bought one years ago and I have come to the conclusion that I'll never step off backwards without breaking my neck! PM or email of interested AHHudgins@verizon.net

If Skeez doesn't want it, I'll gladly buy it. I have a friend that really wants one.

Haha, HW- robbing my photobucket for your own pics?

I saw this post earlier today and was eagerly awaiting the responses. Like HW said, Ive been on the lookout for a flip turn ski all winter, without any luck. Ive been considering making my own and was curious what would make the best donor. If Skeez passes on your ski AHHudgins, Id love the chance to buy it. I'll shoot you an email.

I'm mustering up the courage to chop down a jumper this year, we'll see how they compare. The "little" skis definitely require more balance side to side, while being careful not to bury the nose.

Make one out of a jumper or old wooden ski...The small ones are skeetchy!

I'm with Tex. If you can get your hands on an old jumper, make it out of that. If not, use an old wooden ski.

Thanks for the responses. Although I've been watching for jumpers for quite some time, I have yet to come across anything. Email sent to ahhudgins, thanks for the offer!

I told No Skeez that I have to check the shed this weekend and see if I still have the ski. I tried it a few times and could never get it turned around. I know that it stayed in the shed for years but I believe that I may have canned it because it was just taking up space. It is curved up on one side to avoid catching an edge but I guess I just suck at it.

It IS small and squirrely. I can come up backwards on trick skis, do a 180 and 360s on a single trick about half the time, but I couldn't get that flip ski around. I guess I was just thinking about slamming my back as soon as I tried to step off!:D
