Has anyone purchased a boat from Bennetts or another type of ski school or Unniversity? If so, how did you end up liking the boat? Was it beaten pretty hard or in overall good condition?
Secondly the boat has around 550 hours on the MCX engine. I am not familiar with this engine, are they good for 2k hours if maintained like most of the other engines?
Any feedback would be great.

Oh no guys! Here we go again
Attn: MC, please make sure your servers are running at optimum performance. We are about to put them thru the paces :D
I know a guy with a couple year old X Star boat that he bought from them. He has been very happy with the boat. I can't see how a properly maintained MCX couldn't make 2k hours if older PCM's are able to get that without all the technology

You are quite the comedian!!! I was thinking the same thing about the engine, but just wanted to clarify.

I haven't purchased a boat from Bennets but I have seen many of their ski school boats that they have had for sale. They take very good care of theirs. Look brand new besides the hour meter.
I have seen some college club boats as well and many of those are just the opposite. Ridden hard and put away wet.

We were very happy with our boat. It had a bad safety switch which they replaced. We did find a small tear in the engine cover that they said was as is. I didn't see it during the inspection, but found it when we got home and the mechanic had been in the boat that night. Soon was it there or not.
Our carpet showed the most wear. It's pretty flat compared to a one year old boat. They have approx. 300 hours on them so that's about the same as 3-6 years of use depending on use useage. The seats were slightly dirty/stained which I regret not having them cleaned there because it's still not right. I believe it's the water that caused the problem. I've used Mojo hand cleaning and it's made it a lot better. I even tried Babe's which everyone recommended and it took of the surface dirt, but never got the stains out.
We saved a ton of money by buying through Bennett's and I'd recommend them anyday. I even took it back to them for winterization (7 hour drive) and the mechanic was great!
Just take your time and go through the boat completely so there's no misunderstanding. They also gave us discounts on any parts or accessories while we were there. Ordered a different Bimini (03 model), Tonneau cover, fiberglass platform near wholesale prices. They even add $750 to the cost for these extra's so they could be included in our loan.
If you want to know more give us a call. I'd also recommend Promo guys. They are all selling their 05's now and should be close to Bennett's price, but with less hours (only 75-100). There's one or two listed under Marketplace.
Good Luck!

Pull out the buying a boat checklist (just used) and go through all of the inspections. Get service logs, etc.
You seem to be a high hour user, but I think the newer boats will last longer than the past history has established, just as cars last long now than they did 10 years ago.
How much of a discount over market is it?

Asking price is at 27,999 w/ MCX motor and 690 hours!

I am persuing a couple other boats right now. That many hours worries me on a boat that I will likely keep for 10+ years.

This is the email that I got about the boat:
The boat now has about 690 hrs on it. The change on the web site was b/c Esteban has listed it last summer and just recently updated the ad. It does have the MCX engine as all Tournament Team Boats do. The interior is white and does have some minor nicks that go with being a team boat. We had the boat professionally detailed and It does look very nice.
Let me know if you have any other questions. The boat is a good one and I hope the hours don't worry you. My wife and I have a former team boat for our personal use. It just rolled 1700 hours and all I have ever done is change plugs, oil, and 1 each steering and throttle cables.
It just doesn't seem worth 28k to me plus a 24 hour car ride!

I called to a couple of dealers and they said a ski boat would have to be rebuild o/a 2,000 hours. I don't remember the cost of a rebuild, but figured I saved enough to have it done when it is necessary!
Good luck!

*When i was lookin at the 00 PS190 for ERK I came across this boat and couldnt believe it.
If you are going to sell a boat, at least clean it a little bit.
And dry it off, there is water all over it. NOT THE SAME BOAT AS ABOVE

Oh yeah, sorry bout the link Mark.
I forgot about "the dream boat"
'00 190 has a great wake!
When shopping, be sure the trailer springs have been replaced by mc on the recall. And look really hard at the seat covers since there was an issue that year with bad fabric. Both issues were covered by mc on mine and have been mentioned elsewhere on this board.

You know the old saying the 2 best days in a boat owners life are the day they buy it and the day they sell it....Erkle is trying to OD on best days.
east tx skier
07-19-2005, 12:47 PM
I used to think that, too. But for me, the best day is usually the most recent one behind the boat. Hitting the water this weekend after a solid week-and-a-half of much needed rain. Course goes in Thursday night.
