Hey everyone,

I just got a 07 expedition with the air leveling rear suspension. I am wondering what length of drop I should get.

On my dakota, i used a 2" drop turned upside down, but I am not sure that once I flip it back it will be enough drop.

The boat is a 99 maristar 230 on a tandem trailer. It is in cumberland, so I can just go and gauge it.

Thanks.

Assuming you have your truck at home, a better question would be for similar boat / trailer owners to measure the ball to the ground dimension they use. You can do the math to find your drop. Otherwise, you are waiting for someone w/exact same combination. If nobody helps, you could call someone selling identical boat & ask for measurement...

Well after searching, it seems that most trailers like to have the ball top at 18" off the ground. I am going to assume that the air leveling will pick it back up under load and start there.

Thanks.

Using whatever drop you have now, hook the boat up and then measure to where the boat would be level with the ground and just add that to your new drop.

general rule of thumb on most trailers, top of ball at 18-18 1/2 inches loaded.

I was always told to ensure your trailor is perfectly level... Then, measure accordingly....

OK well I will have to go to the boat in the next few months and find out. If anyone who has a maristar 230 can approximate the hight of the coupling, it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd almost bet ... that the height of the bottom of the coupler is 16 to 16 1/2 inches off the ground when trailer is level ... (making the top of the ball 18 - 18 1/2 inches)

I've read 18" on this forum more times than I can count. That's probably right. If you check the manuals in the "Knowledge Center" on the mastercraft.com website, I am pretty sure you'll find the info there.

I went and checked what I have and it looks to be 1.5" high, I am going to go with a 4" drop in case anyone ever needs to know.

and the 4" drop will take you to what distance from the ground to the top of the ball mount?

Right at 18" I would rather have it a bit low than a bit high because getting it out of the storage unit there is a big change in incline between the gravel lot sloping into the road.
