Ok guys im confused! My 81 S&S on the window has the power slot badge but the tag on the trans has Velvet drive. Whats the deal?

Power Slots had a Borg Warner 1.52:1 (Velvet Drive) transmission.

So everything is right?

If the tag has 1.52:1 stamped on it and you have a 1 1/8" drive shaft everything is right. Stock three blade prop size would be 14"x18". Non power slot boats had a Borg Warner 1:1 (Velvet Drive) transmission which is a little shorter and ran a 1" drive shaft. I'm not sure of the 1:1's prop size.

1:1 trans came with a 13x13 prop.

I actually had a similar question. I thought the power slot was 1:5:1, but I've seen the 1.52:1 mentioned as well. What's the difference and how do you know which one you have?

Its 1:52:1 if you have a power slot in an S and S. Some of the later boats had a different ratio to my knowledge but yours would be in fact a 1:52:1 if its a powerslot.

As far as direct drives go, it was 1.52:1 up through the mid 2000s at which point MC went to 1.26:1 in their gear reduction transmissions. The 1.52:1 was retained for the big block for a bit longer, I believe. Last year, I saw in the 2011 AWSA approved towboat list (http://www.usawaterski.org/pages/TournKit/AWSA/Chief%20Driver/2011ApprovedTournamentTowboats.pdf) a couple of different engine/transmission combinations in the AWSA tests depending on the motor, among them 1.26:1, 1.25:1, and 1.22:1.

Confused yet?

1.22 are all 6.0L
1.26 are MCX
this in approved boats and tested that way
1 1/8" shaft is a slot 14 X 16 or 18 prop
1" shaft are 1.1 13 x 13 prop
You have either a slot or not.

Apparently, there may be a 1.25:1 on some of the 5.7 L engines for 2011 according to what was tested.

Mine has the "power Velvet slot"! Ummmmm, that would be the trans in my S&S.... Don't take that out of context!
