I have an 87 mastercraft with 351 ford and borg warner transmission. With the motor off and nothing running will the prop still spin if i put the transmission in the Forward position manually? How does the transmission engage on these?

Hey Will, welcome to TT.

I'm not understanding you question.

If the motor is off the prop should spin freely. If it is not you seem to have something binding the shaft and there are few reasons that might happne.

Motor alignment

Bent strut

Bent prop shaft

Worn bushings

I know but should the prop spin freely if i manually shift it to the forward or reverse position on the transmission with the engine not running.

With engine off you should be able to turn your prop shaft, doesn't matter if it's in gear or not. (just like an automatic trans in a car)

What is your trans doing to give you problems?

Exactly with no hydraulic pressure being generated it could still spin freely as nothing in the trans is forcing it in any direction.

Break away torque should be 69 inch-pounds.
