We have a 05 X-10 and are having a heck of a time keeping the the interior clean due to the carbon black which is coming off on our feet, clothes or anything else that comes in contact with the rubber walk tred on the composite platform. I was told this question appeared in the general topics before, however I did not have a chance to see what is being done. I did talk to my dealer about this and he said his MC rep hasn't given him an answer. (This was over one and a half months ago) Any suggestions?

There was just a thread about this last week. I think the answer was teak, which is probably not what you wanted to hear.

I think you will find it is more from the engine leaving exhuast soot on the platform than the rubber itself. I few guys I boat with have Baja's with tube platforms and no-slip inserts that aren't rubber and have the same problem. It may be your engine is running a little rich if you are running high octane fuel. They cut back to 89 octane and have less issues with it. Might not fit your problem...but worth a try.

We do like the teak, we had it on our X-7, but the composite really dresses up the boat. Besides I thought maybe this was just a defective run of walk tred and it could be switched out or replaced.

Not sure if it is engine deposit or from the rubber, but it is happening on the CC & BU fiberglass platforms as well. Doesn't help you, at least it's not just a MC thing.

I am not sure if the rubber on the platform is the same stuff Mastercraft uses on their trailers (I have a teak platform and wouldn't go back for utilitarian purposes), but while cleaning my trailer I notices that there was a ton of black soot looking crap coming off and getting on the yellow trailer. If it is the same product, then its definitely not soot.

I have teak platform but noticed the same as you because the drivers floor and trailer steps are the same material you mentioned and I was hoping soap and water would get rid of the black film that's on that shiny material now?

I didnt think about the drivers floor, but I bet its all the same stuff. If black is coming off it, it is wearing away quickly. I always step on the carpet after driving...so I think that takes care of it but when I step on the trailer step I always smear a little black everywhere.

I think the composite swim platforms look great...and when my boat didnt have one I was seriously bummed...but now...I wouldnt trade it for anything.
