I have a 84 MC with a 1:1 trans. Came across this craigslist ad and it is 8 minutes from my house. I was wondering if this will work to keep around as a spare.

I have a spare velvet drive transmission that came with an 82 Nautique with a 351 in it.
I have sold the boat and have no need for this spare transmission.
It rotates nice and smooth and the fluid on the dipstick looks pretty clean.
Other than that I don't know anything about it.
It was just a spare that came with a boat I had bought.
I'd like about $150 but need it gone. I'm moving and don't want to just scrap it.

My guess would be as long as the 351 rotated the same direction as yours you would be ok? Let a few other experts chime in but for the price Im sure you could use it as a solid core if it didnt end up working towards a rebuilt unit.

Trannys are like 1,500 rebuilt from ski it again. Rebuild kits are like 300 range and are easy to install. They all have the same insides the front pump is 180 off for reverse rotation. If you like tinkering it may be fun to play with. Our tranny's are pretty much bullet proof and replacing clutches and springs is not a big deal. If bought it would probably sit in your garage un used or touched for years.
