hmmm...
If he wants to be out there on skis, well ok, I get that, but what is the point of using poles on water?

Yea no kidding...

What to be impressive? Strap on a pair of show boards and put a girl up on your shoulders! Now that would be impressive...

I think it is for rhythm. Unless you are on the flats, that's the only use for poles in snow skiing.

Yea I totally agree, the ski poles made me laugh, they just looked out of place be he's got guts, I could never do it. I would like to drive the jet ski in that surf though. Pretty cool waves.

Kinda cool to see something new.

I was actually expecting to see a guy riding a wave on a slalom ski. That would be cool. (no poles of course)

Haha Matt, "nipping at your heels" makes it sound so dainty. Those waves sound like a jet engine behind you and would squash you like a grape, not to mention hold you down until your eardrums explode.
I think it was Laird Hamilton who when asked what it was like to surf big wave replied "it's like jumping off the roof of a two story house, and then having the house chase you down the street"

i think the poles may also be for balance and to help him turn (drag a pole)? much like the paddle surf guys use the paddle blades to help in turns.

it definitely requires cajones to go out in 25 foot waves with waterskis!!
