We have been working with Progressive for the past two days and ended up with a $200.00 a year policy! Deductable is $500. Liability is 500K. Trick...the horsepower! Since we don't pull faster than 34 to 36 mph, we told them the hp was 250. We put our boat at 15k and that was with the trailer. Just some info for you boys if you are interested! B

I hope you don't have to make a claim. If they find out the real HP, they will deny the claim.

Just got a quote today from Progressive for a policy on a new $50K, 23 foot inboard (MariStar) with 350 hp with max liability, $500 deductable, towing insurance, uninsured boater, and boat replacement value for 10 years (not depreciated value)- $490 per year. Ouch.

I don't think I'll be claiming anything. The boat is on a private site and we don't tow it anywhere. Haven't made a claim in the 12 years we have had it. But....I really shouldn't say NEVER...should I? B

I pay $460 with a year with One Beacon, they specialize in marine insurance. I had to give them the hull number and they already new it had the LT1 w/ 328 HP when they gave me a quote. But they were $100 cheaper than my auto insurance company quote, So I just went with One Beacon.

On a side note, I heard from my dealer that progressive is known to drop you after one claim, which I can understand with only paying $200 a year. Hearsay. sp?

I will probably get additional quotes after this policy year. See where I'm at.

Needed classic boat insurance for my 84 prostar. Hagerty was a fair company to deal with and the policy has excellant coverage for around $270.

Then why do you have insurance? Liability I guess (?). My boat's fairly old ('90 PS 190), paid for, and maybe worth $7500 (???). I dropped my hull coverage and only carry liability now. My insurance was cut in half, paying around $125/year. I figured if I ever did file a claim on the hull, the insurance company probably wouldn't give me much anyway...

Of course, liability is always important IMO.

You better hope you don't swamp it and lose the engine. They'll replace it with a 250 hp one. ;)

I ditched One Beacon this year after my rates (with no claims) went up $100 in the two years I've owned my boat.

Went with Voyager Marine Ins. and am paying $302 with no layup (less than I was originally paying One Beacon). Sounds like I should at least check with Progressive.

Just under $400 thru Safeco. After being denied by Ski Safe for riding a foil, I found out their coverage is only for 6 months a year. We have drysuits & get more like 9 or 10 months of use out of the boat every year.
Now I guess Ski Safe has changed their carrier & accepts foil riders. But be sure to up the ante for these $3k & $4k skis!!

Not sure why we have the other ins. on it since it stays in one place. Not like we tow it anywhere. We are required to have the liability because we are on a private lake.B

I lost my boat in the Fall flood last year. I would suggest that you ask your insurer what your book value is if you have an older boat. It may be more than you think and more than you paid. That was my case and they told me I could insure for the "book" and not what I paid. When the boat went bye-bye they paid the undepreciated value(book). Best thing that ever happened to my boat and me!!

Best thing that ever happened to my boat and me!!Although my insurance premium on my 230VRS is BIG, part of the reason is that I opted to pay an extra $60/year to get replacement value for the boat for 10 years. That way, I don't have to worry about the depreciation issue - if the boat is totalled, they just buy me a new equivalent Mastercraft whatever it costs.

So in about 9 years, you'll be looking for storms or sunken tree stumps to sink your boat... ;) Good deal :D

Heh...who knows what Mastercrafts will cost in 9 years? It would have to be totalled-for-certain...
