Anyone ever heard (or done) of anyone converting and older MC from a Ford Small Block to a Chevy Small block? Apparently PCM now makes motor mounts to convert to a Chevy block.

Really out of curiousity more than anything. Vince told me PCM makes these mounts now. The 350 Chevy has got to be the cheapest engine to build, it could be a cost savings if one had to replace an engine.

Excuse my ignorance, but is there a difference in the transmission you need. Using your example pull the Ford, install the Chevy can you use the same tranny?

Same transmission Bri, good question though. Might have to find the right damper plate though

Same trans, different bellhousing bolt pattern though. There are alot of bellhousing adapters on the market though, to allow almost anything to bolt up to a SBC.

Well MarkP seemed to do ok on the Ford (Explorer) to Chevy (Yukon) conversion. :D Follow his lead!

Why would you pull a Ford and put a chevy in anyway????

I guess if you want to be really upside down in the boat ...go for it.
In the 80's a Chevy 350 was a upgrade option of I believe 1500-1800.
The Ford was used not because it was cheaper but because more torque
was produced at lower RPM's. The Chevy 350 produced more torque at higher RPM's. The current MCX is used because the torque curve has been evened out thoughout the curve. Why you would want to change is beyond me unless you want to throw away money. There alot of other things to do to that FORD to beef it up

Have Fun

I think I would bolt an old 9.9 Evinrude on the back before I would switch over to a Chevy.

Easy guys! I never said I had plans to do this. Just that I now know the equipment is readily available to do so. Jeez, tough crowd :D

However, while on the subject of motors, other than brass freeze plugs and exhaust and cooling sytem, what else is there different between a marinized Ford engine and a regular car engine??

Carb, starter, and alternator that I can think of. Not sure if the oil pan or pump is different to handle the angle.

Impeller.

Stick with the Ford. Throw some GT40p heads on it, fuel inject it, beef it up and make the chevy guys cry.
