My neighbor is selling his 2008 x2 and wants 47 000. Has 92 hours and fully optioned except shower and teak deck. In excellent shape. Is this about right on value in the SE US.

I sold my 07 for $43K, and i thought I GAVE it away!:(

If the '08 X2 truly has 92 hours, gel is in excellent to perfect condition as well as vinyl. Has all options: i.e. 4 Speakers, 2 W/lights, rear light bar, heater, MCX or better, bow filler, underwater lights and Tandem Axle Trailer, then the boat is priced at least $5,000 to $10,000 below what is worth. Condition and options mentioned above are key to pricing the boat. 92 hours is really low for the boats age. Also be sure the boat was properly maintained, oil & trainy changed as well as proper winterization etc. There are a whole bunch of factors to consider when pricing and looking at a used boat, others will chime in, but I think this is a pretty low price.

You did give that away, especialy with the SS package. I'd say $48K for an 08 X2 is about the most you can expect to get.

I think $48,000 for a 08 is a great price. The boat is 2 years old and has only 92 hours on it.

Compared to what? There are a bunch of 08 X2's for sale in the $40's. Like my '09....There are a lot of X14's in the $40's. Most have fewer options, but still it will be tough for me to get $55K for a 2 yo boat that I paid around $65K for and listed for almost $80K when there are a fair amount for sale in the high 40's

Nice one for $46: http://onlyinboards.com/Details.aspx?ID=26856

Not saying op won't get $48, just that it's on the high end of the spectrum IMO.

Not a great deal but not the worst ripoff either. If it truly has every option, I'd look to get it below $44k, hopefully close to $40k.

The X-2 you have referenced is deposited as sold to a gentleman in Canada. Good deals do not last long. The boat is in my shop having additional options added before shipping it to the new owner.

The previous owner had it for a year before he decided to sell it, he purchased the boat and trailer separately both were purchased for exceptional deals considering the condition and options.

NADA is listing values for a heavily optioned out 2008 X-2 w/350HP as
"AVG Retail $46,500" "High Retail $53,000" these values are not including a trailer.

If you are somewhere in this range you are ok, mint to perfect condition boats bring more money obviously

Not sure what you're refering too but you couldn't touch a loaded 08 X2 with low hours for close to $40! I would list it for $48 and hope to get $46 depending on factors like time of year, location, demand, etc.

New X-2's are considerably more money than the $48k

92 hours is what I put on in one summer.... my 08 has just under 300 hours

Key words there are list and hope. There were very nice, low hour X-2s going for low $40's around here last summer.

A lot of people seem to forget there is a difference between worth and value. You can list an X2 at 55k because that is what it's "worth". But the market is crap, and the value is only what someone is willing to pay for it. I looked for an 08 X2 fully optioned for awhile. I checked out 3 different boats, and none of them would consider dropping below 55k at the lowest. Not sure what those guys were smoking?? But an X2 just isn't worth that to me, when I could go out and buy a fully optioned 09 X-35 with the same hours for 70k. So now I have a better boat, that is newer, with no more hours. And the only money I paid extra, was what I would've lost when the next year, selling the X-2 to upgrade.

ksdaoski
02-02-2011, 07:36 PM
I would say the "value" is going to be around $10k less than a seller is asking, and probably $5k more than a buyer wants to pay. There are huge spreads out there currently.

Case in point, take a look at the variances in "asking" prices:
$50k http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2008-Mastercraft-X2-Slider-97721996
$52k http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2007-MASTERCRAFT-20X2-97353677
$40k http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2006-MasterCraft-Maristar-X-Series-97837925
$43k http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2009-Mastercraft-X2-97828504
$62k http://www.mastercraft.com/market/showproduct.php?product=3957&cat=6

A $22k spread between high and low, between 2006, 2008, and 2009's....

I looked at the 09 x2 in nevada back in October last year.

Chips in the gelcoat from where it had been bashed into a dock, slight rip in one of the seats, very little in options and generally not a very well looked after boat. But, for the price he is asking, these things could be fixed a couple of speaker cans added, and it would still come in under the average 09 price.

I picked up my 07 x2 for $41k in October. Mint condition, no marks anywhere, the guy i bought it off was anal !!!

I may have paid a bit much, but i thought the condition the boat was in it was worth it.

Thanks for the input. I have time as our lake season is a few months away still so I hope to get a good deal. Looks like the market is 40k to 49k based on what I have seen. I may start looking at x1's also but some of the salesmen say it is the economy boat and a step down from the Maristar I am used to. I like the fact it is a 205v type hull for slalom.

I think you will find that one of the links ksdaoski has posted is the boat you looked at makaveli2308..... the maroon 2009..... the only question I had - cracks in the Gelcoat would most likely be a warranty item....... and being sold by a dealer you would think that it would have been attended to? prior to sale
anyway......

it does really come down to what the buyer is prepared to pay...... and what a seller is willing to let it go for...... and your own negotiation skills.....

the other consideration is dealer margin...... many "private sale" boats on the market perhaps due to the downturn may be being snapped up by dealers for sale as stock is limited....

the other issue is the old "supply and demand"....... not many late X2's come onto the market as compared to "other" brands...... the is always a price factor

I guess one would have to look at a year price band.......
2007 - $ 38,000 - $ 44,000 (dependant upon condition/trailer/options
2008 - $ 45,000 - $ 50,000 " "
2009 - $ 50,000 - $ 60,000

makaveli2308

hull wise no changes that i am aware of.

Updated dash / electronics i believe are the only changes. Tower etc is all the same aswell.

I guess the extra $$ really come down to the boat being newer and that's about it.

The X-1 is not a step down from a 99 Maristar. The only downside of the X-1 is the interior space; its not a big boat in that regard, really a 6 person boat. Other than that, it's a fantastic boat and it handles a lot better than an X-2.

hbomb

would not be unreasonable if comparing early 2008 to a late 2009
I personally think 60k is a little ambitious for a boat of that vintage but the market demand will dictate

it comes back to........... if "you" are happy with the price - and the product is what "you" want, then go for it..... because somewhere down the track someone will absolutely say....... "you paid too much for it"!!
good luck..

It is a huge drop in price. I've had the money sitting aside for months, an literally searched online every night for 3+ hours and I've dropped my name off at 5+ dealerships letting them know what I'm looking for. I missed a couple smoking deals by mere hours but my persistence paid off with this lucky find.

Plus the fact that it had a couple small chips in the gel coat I think scared people off, but to fix it back to perfect is about $900. I had to have it shipped 2000 miles too to me in Michigan.

The actual going rate for the 08-09's is around $50+; trust me, I know from how much time I sat in front of a computer screen.

This is the going rate that sellers expect to get for it. But how many of those boats are actually moving?? Eventually those sellers will have to drop their price, unless they fluke out and find that really impulsive guy with a lot of money, who just so happens to love the exact boat that seller has.

I spent a lot of time looking as well, but just as you did, I would pass on any X-2 that wouldn't drop their price to near 50k. So I imagine plenty of other buyers are doing the same thing.

That seems like an OK deal for a boat with no other options than he mentioned. If the tower has 4 speakers, and the boat is loaded, then that is one hell of a deal alright.

True... guess I should've rephrased that. The actual asking price is $50+ for those years.

My neighbor bought his 08 for $43 last year. Loaded minus the upgraded motor.

As for the options on mine, it is fairly bare except I do have a bimini and 350mcx. But all I really need to be happy is a couple tower speakers, heater, and ballast upgrade which will cost me about 2k ish. So if you do the math I'll have a slightly loaded 09 for about 44 + tax and shipping of course.

True. So it would equate that he will have a nicely set up X2 that he'd be into for $45K ish. Which is still a very good deal. Puts the used X2's generally worth around $50K with decent options.

I absolutely agree about the regional differences. Also availability of used boats is another. Area dealers say than could sale all the X-2 they could get.

Definately needs a cleaning. I mean there is bread crumbs and everthing in the glove box. But structurally the boat is in great shape and I'm happy. I had to pay about $780 bucks to get it shipped to Michigan though. Plus were still under 2 1/2 feet of snow. :(

Just post it up at least a week out before you want it shipped and people just undercut each other one after another. I actually paid the shipper only $680 and the rest went to USHIP.com. It was 1889 miles too

I had a quote from Lousiana to Michigan on another boat for 650 bucks but obviously that one fell through.

Archimedes,

Absolutely correct on the regional differences. For instance: My MC dealer out here couldn't keep a used x2 on their books for more than a few weeks. People snag up the 20 footers instantly. But keep in mind, besides the Great Lakes here we have fairly shallow or small lakes. Hence the reason I shipped a boat 2000 miles away, that was the only way to get a good deal.

Is this the one you bought? I thought I saw them shrink wrapping it a little while ago. Very nice it was used in the Silverman triathalon in November. In fact I believed I towed it out along with three other MC's. My daughter drove it from the ramp to the event while I was launching ours. She really liked it along with the X45 she drove too.
