View Full Version : Ballast pump turn over

Ok, it was in the high 40s today so I finished up turning my ballast pump impeller side down.

The biggest issue with turning it over was how close it was to the KGB(center) pump. I could not turn it over and have enough room to connect all the hoses.

Fix - I machined a 1 inch block of aluminum so the pump would be offset from the KGB pump. I counter sunk the screw that hold block to the transom of the boat and then marked, drilled and tapped the holes that would mount the pump to the block.

Then I mounted the pump. As you can see the pumps are offset by 1 inch so there is enough room to route the hoses.

All hoses reconnected.

Hopefully someone finds this useful.

I wish that I had that sort of skill, confidence and equipment. Thanks for the idea...although I actually relocated my KGB pump all the way up to right next to the tank...but that was far more work than this.

I suppose that it would be easier to do with a piece of starboard or something and could get the same result. Then there would not have to be any messing with tapping alluminum, plain woodscrews would work.

I'm tossing around ideas/designs to make a mounting plate for all three pumps that I can unbolt and rotate for easy access to the impellers.

I tossing around ideas/designs to make a mounting plate for all three pumps that I can unbolt and rotate for easy access to the impellers.

Depending on clearance you could hinge such a plate at the top so that the pump would swing up 90+ degrees for easy access to the impeller.
