What would be the recommended boat for someone wanting to slalom mostly but have the v drive configuration? we want to stay in the 20 to 21 foot range and 2006 to 2008 model years. We are going to try to sell our 1999 210 Maristar w/ 460 hours real soon.

Those two are your best bets... X14 was introduced in 2007 as a mid-year release (not sure about the V drive configuration though). Really depends on your budget, X1's tend to be lower in price.

X-2 with wake plate

I bought a 2010 X-14v. I came from a 97 PS190 LT1. I only slalom and some surf. My wife is a intermediate wakeboarder. We needed more space (for cruising) and I was obsessed with preserving wake quality. This boat has turned out to be truly amazing. We looked at other X boats e.g. X-1 or X-2 but was strongly advised against them due to hull shape. X-14v is obviously based on the 214 which is basically a 197 stretched a bit. The v-drive is fairly forward--while not DD, it isn't against the transom, creating more weight.

I frequently ski behind my buddies Air-Natique which is DD and 1,000 lbs lighter than my boat. His wake is much more abrupt and harder than the X-14v.

Search for X-14v. There are a lot of guys who have written extensively about their purchase process and boats they compared. All with very similar needs.
Best of luck.

Thx for the replies. I see a plate on the back of the x2's i have seen is that for smoothing out the wake for slalom? Sorry for newbie type question.

On the new X2's the plate is for salom skiing. What is you price range?

As mentioned earlier the 14v first came out in late '07 as a '08 model. They might be a little harder to come across used as there aren't that many out there yet compared to the x1.

The 14V wasn't introduced until '09. I saw one of the 2 prototypes in late '08 at the factoryduring fanfare. 14V will have a much better slalom wake....the X1 will have a better boarding and surfing wake. 14V will be substantially more as the base price is higher and there are so few in the used market.

The first 14DD was introduced as a mid year release in 07 as an 07 model. So production was limited.

If you want a V drive to slalom behind, you cannot do better than the X14V from all reports. And the lay out and versatility of that boat for cruising, surfing, boarding etc is amazing.

My price range is 40k or under. I am getting ready to sell my 1999 Maristar 210 with 460 hours and we just had the boat show here in ATL so interest is picking up. Anyone in GA looking for a Maristar PM me. Thanks again for the advice. I like the X1 and it's crossover potential so may go in that direction.

Lots of nice X1's out there. Good luck, you will find something nice I'm sure.
