Although MasterCraft and the Greater Knoxville Track Club have been partners in the MasterCraft Race Series for the last few years, this past weekend marked the first time a series event was held at the MasterCraft manufacturing facility. With idyllic conditions – smooth water, mild temperatures and wide, traffic-free roads -- the Tellico Sprint triathlon received overwhelmingly positive reviews from many of the 250 competitors.

“We originally approached MasterCraft with the idea of having this race at their plant because we were weary of having the competition on the busy thoroughfares we have utilized in the past,” http://www.tmcowners.com/photopost/data/559/MCRS_Tellico-Sprint_4.jpgsays Kevin Mahan, coordinator for Race Day Events. “Little did we know having the Tellico Sprint at MasterCraft would be far beyond what we hoped. In fact, we had several people request to have 2 or 3 more races here!”

The Tellico Sprint, with a swim-bike-run format, began with an 800 meter swim in the wind and boat-protected cove next to MasterCraft headquarters. Working through the open, 200-car employee parking lot as a transition area, competitors hopped onto their bikes for a quick 17-mile loop on nearby Highway 72. They returned to exchange their biking shoes for running shoes and finished up the race with a 3-mile trek. A large crowd made up of family and friends stood at the finish line to cheer on every racer as they crossed the finish line. After the race was over, many remained on site to hear the results, eat some lunch and to enjoy the lake.

The Race Series is a perfect choice because it embodies the active outdoor and healthy lifestyle approach of our boating customers. The fact that we could leverage that sponsorship even further by hosting the event at our facility was simply icing on the cake.”
