I have to replace my battery (on a Prostar 190 year 1991). I currently have an automotive 100 ah battery. Should I buy a marine battery? Which are the advantages over a car battery? What type would you suggest?
And how many Ah ?

Thanks

I have had a Everstart Yellow Marine battery in mine for three years with good results. I think it was like $60 at Wal-Mart.

I'd definitely use a marine battery over an automotive. Better isolation of the internal plates and they're built to survive the constant hard shocks that automotive batteries are not.

I have had my Optima for four years now with no problems. Acid won't spill because it is totally sealed so it doesn't matter if it turns on it's side. You can run it all the way down and does not matter. Can last twice as long as traditional batteries.
Nothing better in my opinion.

Great luck with my Delco Marine battery for two seasons and counting.

OK, thank you for the advice. Marine battery seems to be better for everyone. What about capacity? How many "ah" do you suggest?

I just purchased the blue top marine "starting" for my boat.. Last exide gel type lasted 5 years.. The optima dealer had a huge battery he tried to sell me.. Deep cycle that was a big boy.. Would not fit into my battery box, but being a gel it probably would not have mattered.. You people with the big stereos/amps should look at it next battery time.... Rick

I have a Delco Marine battery that I bought at Wal-Mart at least 6 years ago in my 1994 prostar. If it ever dies I will probably go with another one like it. I do not know the size but I think they only had one size when I bought it.

I have the exide orbital - I really like it. Same technology as optimal but a little bit cheaper. Cost me about $100
