Does anyone know how many Barefoot 200's were built? I believe from 1991 - 1996?

A lot have asked this question over the years... Don't remember ever seeing an exact number. One thing for certain is MC didn't build ENOUGH BF 200's!

so, I see the 1991 BF200 and the 1991 PS190 used different windshields... mine is 3 piece, yours is 5 piece.

I just figured they used the same hull, one had an innie and one had an outtie

Ill play too. I will also AGAIN ask MC to make Barefoot boats again, even if its just one for me.

MC would need to make at least 2 Barefoot boats because I would want one also.

I wonder how many preorders it would take for them to build it.

From my experience boat molds are sold off after a new design has been created... at least it is this way in the high performance market.

Does anyone know what became of the BF200 molds? Did MC destroy them? Store them? Sell them?

Seems a good secondary boat company could be created with the molds, if someone wanted to take the plunge!

Is there a current hull design in production that would work with outboard power. Much like they did in the 90's?

duckguy

I don't think so. The 190,197 hull is pretty flat and does not produce a good wake for footing. Also has a fair amount of side spray.

My hope is actually that the re-desgin of the 190/197 may be able to compete with the Sanger DXII in the way that they consider footing when it is designed which sadly I doubt.

I told my buddy about the desires expressed on here and the need for MC to bring back a footin boat. I'm fairly certain they don't have the molds anymore. One of the best options would be to take 2RLAKE's 92 and make a plug from it and go from there. In order for this to happen I'm assuming there would have to be real support for it, i.e. orders, many many orders.

So does everyone agree that MC made about 50 BF200's for about a 6 year span (1991-1996), with a rough total of 300?

6 X 50 = 300.

Im pretty sure 50 a year for 6 years is 300:D

Actually it is 6 years. 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996. So it would be 350.....approximately.

I e-mailed my buddy so see how many preoders we would need before they would consider plugging 2RLAKEs 1992.....assuming 2RLAKE would allow that!

I stand corrected, pretty good math skills huh?
I can't believe that is all they built. There really isn't a better ski boat for salt water than the BF200. They handle chop really well, outboards don't have the issues inboards have with the salt water. You can pull the motor up when when beaching at the shallower beaches such as we have on Puget Sound.

They would need to change the deck to make it look more modern.

And a swim platform intergrated into the transom would be nice too. I think the original lines of the boat and windshield are still good.

I added 4 flush mounted pop-up cleats, making docking and rafting much easier. I love the interior, I have the 2 swivel seats, sliding drivers seat, and rear facing bench seat. The dash could use some updating, but it really isn't that bad in my opinion. I wouldn't change the windshield, it provides great protection and visibility. As for an intigrated swimplatform, that would be great, thye just need to make sure that it has enough freeboard so waves don't wash over the transome.

Don't worry to much. In Alabama that does work out to be 600 boats. :D

These could be interchangeable with other MC models. How many other true ski boats are on the market that are outboard? Seems to be a void in the market.....especially with the amazing advancement in outboard technology.

aquaman I agree with you about you statement. I have two schools of thought and a few concerns.

First off the outboard tech is awesome, My new Merc is insane and I use so little gas its funny. The dash, seats, deck to accept the new windshield would be awesome!

If they went the outboard route based on the old 200 hull a few improvements would be needed. Most footers agree that the sweetest barefoot wake in outboard history was the Sanger and I couldn't say what the hull differences were but if MC were to attack it again I would think they would want the very very best.

If they went inboard copying the dxII they could appeal to footers as well as surfers and slalom skiers as the boat could instead of having a fixed suppression plate could have the adjustable tab making it work well for both hence my earlier statement being that a redesigned 197(which is due anyway) with a little thought about footers and there needs is a more plausible option I would think. Mastercraft I would be happy to offer my opinions etc when design/testing comes around! haha

Whether the old BF200 hull needs modifications is whole separate topic.

The idea of outboard power is the strong point. Outboards are not what they used to be, and inboard tech is lagging. My Yamaha sips fuel, has inboard-torque, low maint, handles fresh or salt water....and the boat has Trim for rough water or just open water, and the boat easily runs over 50 mph. It is only 225 hp! If that is not enough power , you could always go twins!

Just this year all the engines for mercruiser + volvo are getting strapped w/catalytic converters.....nothing but expense + lower performance is the future for the big v-8s....sad but true.

Well said and if i could get a slightly improved bf200 hull with new graphics, interior, etc i would be a happy happy man!

the things we do to make this world a better place ... remolding BF200s

tangent time ... how about if we get some 'bama money for this and have it for free?? We could just tack it on to the spending bill and we all get a free brand new BF200!

Merry Christmas to us
