I'm looking at getting for a CSX 220 SS, but most have the 5.7. I've heard bc of the weight that the 6.0 is needed but I wanted some real feedback to see if the 5.7 was adequate. Also whats the performance, topspeed, and fuel usage between the two? Thanks in advance!

From experience...Make sure that if you do get the MCX get it with the geared transmission
for sure. Driven both with and without geared tranny.

6.0 is AWESOME in the boat. Yes it burns more fuel that the MCX. Not sure exactly how much
If you are running additionl ballast...go with 6.0

Thanks for the info. What's a geared transmission? How do you know if it has one?

I assume because it is a direct drive there are 2 different transmission options. There is the standard transmission, which has a 1:1 ratio, and an optional transmission with a 1.26:1 (1.5:1 in the CSX?) transmission that provides a better low-end pull. If you or someone else is inspecting the boat there is a tag on top of the transmission that is stamped with the transmission gear ratio.

Does the 1 to 1 offer more top end. I've never heard of this. Thanks for the info.

Slightly, but go with the gear reduction. On a prostar the difference in top end is maybe 3-4 mph. Not sure about a csx. But top end isn't usually a concern.

I'm just curious of the benefits too each. Torque versus top speed as well as fuel consumption. Will the 5.7 MCX be adequate?

After having a 190 with a LT-1 in it, the MCX in my X2 barely cuts it, IMO. Get the 400hp engine, the 220 is a heavy boat. Can't see that it would be THAT much more of a gas hog than the 350 when cruising. Loaded down, I could see it sucking down the gas, but that's the price for getting moving quicker!

Okay thanks for the input. I'm just limited with what boats I can find and I've seen people w the mcx in the Xstar which is of similar weight and they are pleased w it. Plus I've heard the 6.0 is a real gas hog!

I have a 2007 CSX 220 with the 5.7 MCX and 1.5 transmission. Power is not an issue, even loaded with passengers and pulling a wakeboard. I think the power to weight ratio is perfect for that boat. With that said, there is no such thing as too much power.
The fuel economy of the 5.7 isn't exactly stellar. I can't see the 6.0 being much worse. I would be willing to bet they are equally bad.

Thanks redrooster! It's good to have someone w the actual boats opinion. Did you order the transmission specially or are most CSX w that type? How's the performance and fuel mileage?
