Has anyone replaced their tower light for an '03 model MC with the led lights? If so, where did you get the lights?

I know this is an old post, but I just installed an LED replacement bulb in my standard tower light. Works great! Got it at www.superbrightleds.com

I got the WLED-WWHP15-T, which is the warm white version. It's much closer to the color of the standard bulb than the cool white version. ( I got both to try and liked the warm white) It seems much brighter than the incandescent bulb. Fits in the tower light fixture perfectly.

Thanks, but I was much more interested in increasing lumens than reducing the carbon footprint of my tower light! ;-)

I did mine. It is a simple project and is just a matter of disconnecting the old light, soldering the new light connections and put it back together. Probably an hour project at the most.

So, why not just replace the standard bulb with an LED bulb? Seems to work well without the extra trouble and expense.

Because the casing is much nicer over the ghetto plastic. Cost was free.

I'm curious about the casing upgrade. Does the new LED unit look different than the old one? Any pics? I was really proud of mine until a few minutes ago. :(

No pics of the new design, but the old black plastic design did not do me much good. First off, the black plastic cap popped off 2 times while towing. I ended up having to put some dabs of silicone on the base so it would not pop off. I also was not stoked on the black plastic.

The new style is a totally clear dome that securely screws onto the chromed base with a weathertight gasket. Much nicer piece and design than the plastic option. I will post a pic of the new design tonight. It is just the new design they put on the '08+ boats.

Ok. Thanks for the info. So what is this about MC giving away free stuff?

Just got to know the right people!

How much did you pay for your LED Bulb? I have been looking for them to install in the storage compartment areas, but have not seen them for less than $45 a bulb.... at least that is what West Marine wants for the damn thing.

Check my link in the earlier post. It'll take you to the site where I purchased it. I think it was around $15. I bought some others to try in my Travel Trailer to save power while boondocking. The smaller ones will take the power use down from 16 watts to 0.42 watts. That'll sure make a batteries last longer.
