I have tried to get an avatar. I reduce my photos to 80x80, but the file size is then too large...any comments??
Also, how do I include pics in my posts????
Thanks
Rick

If the pics are 80x80 pixels and still more than 19.5 k, make sure the resolution is no more than 72 DPI and save it as a JPEG with enough compression to get under the limit. You can upload the avatar to this server, but it might be more reliable to upload it to your own server/storage space and link it.
Pictures can be added in two ways...you can link to them, or attach them. If you link, they have to be on another server already. You click on the image icon at the top of the editing window, then enter the URL of the image and it will show up full size in your post. If you don't have server storage, you can attach the image. If you scroll down toward the bottom of the editing window when you're composing a message, you'll see a selection "Manage Attachments". Click on that and you'll be able to upload one image from your own computer.
Note that in the latter case, the image will be stored on the server where this site keeps its vbulletin software. Attaching images takes up their storage space and affects their monthly bandwidth transfer allotment, as does uploading your avatar instead of linking it. I manage a couple of boards using this same software and I know I appreciate not having to store or transfer too many uploaded images.

As for getting the picture to appear in the thread (as opposed to a link), you also want to only attach one picture per message. Anything more than 1 and it automatically links.
