On my last outing I lost my tower mirror somewhere along the highway. On a positive note, it didn't break the windshield when it fell off.

It was the MC OEM mirror on a 2008 X-1. I had been having a problem with the knob coming off of the treads, so I had put a nut on the treads, inside of the knob. This didn't allow very many threads to engage in the clamp.

Two questions come to mind: 1) Do you take your mirror off while trailering? 2) Does anybody have a recomendation for an aftermarket tower mirror?

Mine goes back in the locker and I keep it there until I next use the boat.

There are some really nice ones on EBAY.

Yes, take it off for towing long distances but if you do this enough times the SS threaded stud will eventually strip out the female threads in the aluminum clamp and you'll have to have a helicoil inserted.

I tow with the mirror in place, but it is only about 6 miles to the launch ramp. However, I am planning on swapping the MC mirror with a Monster Tower mirror. I like the quick release system better than the screw knob because it is built into the mirror arm and you don't have to worry about dropping or losing the knob. Also, I have to put the tower down before I back the boat into the garage, which means the mirror has to come off in order to fold the tower arm forward. The quick release lever is much easier and quckier.

Our mirror is on only when we are in the boat. Storing, trailering, sitting in the marina, the mirror is under the seats.
