I cast mine at 7:00 this morning.

I was a more than a little disappointed that they didn't even have a table for those of us that refuse to use the electronic voting machines and vote on a paper ballot. If there wasn't a counter in the room, I would have had to stand and write with my ballot on the wall. Then they tried to place my paper ballot in the provisional envelope! What has happened to the voting process in this country. Needless to say, my county board of elections has already been contacted about this.

Yahoo has a story about Gov Schwarzenegger banning tattoos and psychics for welfare recipients. They had previously banned using the state-issued debit cards at casinos when they found that they had been used at more than half of the casinos in the state.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101102/ap_on_bi_ge/us_welfare_debit_cards

Let's see Wisconsin's Gov Doyle have the stones to do that. He just made a quiet deal to use all of the $810M for the high speed rail between MKE and Madison, though. That took ballz. If he wasn't hated before, he is now.

Good thing he's on his way out. I hope someone prosecutes him for something.

Oh, Doyle will have a legacy, all right. The largest deficit in state history after campaigning that he wouldn't raise taxes and fees (this is about all he HAS done) and he's just pizzing on the ground wherever he walks. He lets things slide when he shouldn't, he goes after things that should be left alone and he has about the lowest approval rating I can remember. Tony Earl was an idiot but he made people happy by refunding the state's surplus.

I and others think Doyle (emphasis on 'Doy') will take his extra campaign money and move to a low/no-tax state so he can teach.

Sorry, but Jesse did none of what you mentioned above. We should be lucky to have him in office.

He did have a surplus one of his years in office and tried to give it back but couldn't. You should read his books and see how a real elected official should hold office.

I will also add, Jesse is more of a patriot than 95% of the guys currently holding office.

I stand corrected. He didn't manage to give back the surplus. I guess I don't favor him to the extent that you do just because he was here for one looooooooooong term of national embarrassment. I have never denied his patriotism, only his inability to listen to his advisers and how he could have taken his political career a whole lot further had his skin not been so thin.

Remember her slip up when he first was elected? First time in my life I am proud of this country or something stupid like this...

He wants us to become a Socialist country that are weak willed and frail.

My personal opinion is also he wants to abolish Christianity as the primary religion here as well. Also, he NEVER has, that I have seen, put his hand over his heart , nor says the pledge.

I think the answer is, and this is not directed at Skipper, when you get an email trying to disparage someone, no matter who it is, don't take it at face value just because the message says the person "checked snopes and it is legit." That same box that lets you read messages from others also has a search feature that can reveal a lot of this stuff as total nonsense in less than ten seconds. Nothing irritates me off quite as much as the propagation of lies, especially when it's something so easy to verify as such. This is not a political issue. The regurgitation of this kind of crap predates Obama. Plus, talking politics is boring and I tend not to wade into this sort of nonsense. But when it's a matter of truth or fiction, I have a hard time ignoring it.

I'll say it again, when it comes to making a point, legitimate dissent is more powerful, but not when it's grouped in with a bunch of bs.

Nothing personal.

I don't get it either. Makes no sense to me. I've seen a youtube clip of him leading the pledge as a senator in 2007. I don't exactly scour the web for this sort of stuff. But that instance comes to mind.

Again, I don't do political threads. It's the sort of discussion that wastes everybody's time IMO. Don't get me started on political parties. That's not to say that political thought has no value. But arguing about it is not something I bother doing.

My lack of patience stems from when the recipient of the lie then passes it along as truth when no research has been done to prove the accusation..........I could go on about this, however I feel that feelings may get hurt....so I'll stop there.

Today at work we had the honor of having USMC ret Col Wesley Fox ... living Medal of Honor recipient from Vietnam ... he gave a great speech of duty, this country and what it means to be an American ... truly incredible. I had the honor of talking with him several times today as well. What a true American ... then you think of this spineless president we have

Was it a telling statement when the 1st chick said it was the first time in her life she was proud of her country?? I believe it gave a glimpse of who there two people are, I have either seen or read most of what he has said publicly since his days in Illinois and nothing he has done so far has been a surprise but I'm not surprised either that a woefully uninformed electorate is now asking who is this guy. Sadly and irrespective of his color he is monumentally unqualified for the office he holds.

Speaking of uninformed electorate, Stu, did you know much about the judges up for election for whom you voted or voted against? Most don't. So I'm not picking on you. Frankly, I wish we could come up with something better for selecting the judiciary. Their job is almost entirely nonpartisan at the state level.

Maybe at the state level but I have a problem with Federal judges being "selected" after doing favors for a candidate. Jim Doyle is basically planning on being named to the Federal bench after signing the agreement for the $810M high speed rail line here, which Obama wants, badly. He signed it quietly, in Chicago, over the weekend. However, since a Republican was elected as governor, they told the contractors to stop working on it yesterday afternoon. I have to wonder if they actually started digging, or if they were just greasing the wheels for the massive eminent domain swath that will be needed for this.

I think high speed rail would be great if the country didn't already have roads, highways and cities in place. It's not a bad way to see the country but it still takes far longer than flying and it makes absolutely no sense on a short run, like MKE to Chicago or Madison. Oddly, those are two of the legs they made the most noise about for this misguided plan.

You know I didn't know hardly diddley about the judges :D and I agree how can we know about them unless they rule or make news on a highly publicized case? Travis county is still in the dark ages with most not even being contested. Good point and I know it was "Nothing Personal"

Hard to unless you're like me and it's your profession. League of Women voters used to have a ton of information about candidates. Not sure if that's still the case. We are largely uncontested in the general election around here, but that's how around here goes. All the action is typically in the primary. Still, lots of contested statewide judiciary for the SCT and the CCA. Much easier to learn about some of the incumbents in those categories since they will make the paper, especially in Austin. We had a good local lawyer running for SCT as a (D). He lost ... of course. He's a sharp guy all the same. I've heard his opponent, Eva Guzman, speak at some seminars. She's new to the court. Seems pretty smart, too.

I wish we could too. Here in Indiana we have the Judicial retention questions, a yes or no vote. This year it was 5 appellate court judges up for a 10 year term. Sometimes it's the state supreme court judges, or the tax court judge. I always have wanted to be more informed about them since they are on the ballot. This year I stumbled across a state government website that published case history and written opinions from the various state judges. Pretty good stuff, if you had enough time to sift through it all long enough to form an educated opinion. I don't.
It's kind of funny why we even do it because since the current system was put in place in '72, a state judge has never been removed. I guess 'we the people' at least do have the power should it become necessary.
I have always felt voting is a "duty" in this great county and not just a "right". I've done it every election cycle since I turned 18. It's sad to see such low turnout of the electorate and it makes me wonder how things might be different if at least 90% of registered voters took 30 minutes a couple times a year or so....

Are the dems really going to travel down the same path with the witch (pelosi) as minority leader?? Laughable, I still hear them trying to figure out what message voters sent Tuesday, really is it all that hard to understand.
