Picked up an oil sending unit for my 87 pro star from discount inboard marine - thought it would be a simple install but after reading a past post on this it seems that it could crack off trying to get the old one off. I thought it mounted right on the block but it seems to be connected to an extension that is mounted to the block... so i sprayed it down with some liquid wrench but it seems pretty tight.... the question is where would i get this extension if i snap it trying to get it off?
any advice from you guys would be great !
Thanks

Is it the same as this one?

The extension is easy to snap off because the sending unit is mounted at an angle. If you just put a wrench on the sending unit and start turning, it will put put pressure on the extension and could break it off at the block. You can have some one else hold a wrench or vice grips on the extension while you turn the sending unit. I would even grab the sending unit with your free to help hold it steady and twist it at the same time. Just don't try to take the sending unit off without holding the extension steady.

Looks like the one Table rocker showed in his reply - thanks for the advice on how to get it off without snapping the extension.

I broke one this summer, oreilly auto had the new pipe extension in stock, and i had to remove fuel pump to remove the old tube.
