Happy B-Day Eastie! Drink a beer or two! I learned on at a brewer's conference this weekend that on average it takes 40 gallons of water to make 1 pint of beer (from farm to glass). Fullsail/Session lead the nation at .43 gallons per pint, followed by New Belgian (Fat Tire). Alaskan is the only brewery in the nation that uses a nitrogen gas recapturing process.

It's tough to grow organic hops since they are so sensitive. Most organic beer isn't fully organic since the hops aren't, but since they make up less than 5% of the ingredients they are allowed to get away with calling the beer organic.

These things are all true. What is Alaska BC using nitrogen to do? Or, in other words, why are they off gassing Nitrogen?

Lots of the breweries are recapturing CO2. It's in their interest to do so. They can carbonate with it and don't get tagged as a high CO2 producer, which they otherwise are.

Probably a blend of CO2 and Nitrogen (25/75)
