what is the WIX# for the oil filter for MCX? Also, I put about 50 hours on the boat this summer and was told by a boat shop owner that changing the tranny fluid every year is a little overkill (I have changed every year prior). Any thoughts?

He's probably right on the trans oil but for the $10 it costs to change and the amount of time it takes I'll go ahead and spring for the extra protection. I use the AC Delco filter which is now the PH1812 for the long version. I wrote down WIX 51069 for the WIX option.

NAPA Gold, made by Wix - 1069 is standard size, 1060 if you want the longer one.

Or get the super sized K&N HP-6002, $15.32 from amazon. Plenty of room on a 2005 Maristar 210VRS MCX boat.

I thought that I had read somewhere to stay away from the K&N oil filter?

I contacted Indmar, and they recommended K&N as a choice of filters.

Fram filters are the ones to stay away from.

Here is a semi non scientific oil filter study. It mainly hits on construction, materials used, and copy-cat filters. There is some very good information in here about how filters work as well. You just might be surprised as to who is making that filter you are using and just how poorly it performs.

Oh, and from the results of this stufy I either get Wix or Pure One filters now. The Pure Ones are what I know filters best but the author does say is that he can not find the flow data for them and wonders if they may not flow enough oil.

Would this be the same filters to use for the RTP-1?

I agree, there could have been design changes to any number of those filters both good and bad.

How and the heck to you get the filter out of the PS (97 Chevy)? That damn thing is up there? Changed oil but not the filter.
