Help!

I changed the Oil in my Boat yesterday, and discovered a huge issue. My Valve cover on the Port side of the engine was leaking oil like a Sieve! I noticed some oil in the bottom of my boat this year and have been trying to figure out the issue. well i found it!

I was filling it back up through the inlet on that side and it just started FLOWING out from under the valve cover!! I took it off and looked at the gasket (this is the crazy part) it's too big! it wont fit it the groove in the cover! it sticks out by a good 1/2 inch on the short side.

I guess the oil didn't all leak out at once since its way above the oil level in the engine, and i guess im lucky since it's an easy fix, but who would have put in the wrong gasket and left it like that??? does anyone have the part# for the correct one?

Thanks!

Could have been the correct gasket, as some types of gaskets will swell with age and oil saturation

Over-tightening will squeeze them out of shape too.

This! tight to spec is tight enough and evenly so.
