View Full Version : new to me 95 prostar 190 rpm ?

Hey guys, first post....my new to me 1995 prostar 190 I have some questions about. It has the corvette LT1, 1:1 trans, 13x11.5 3 blade prop. has around 1500 hours.

Seems to run great, pull hard, no hesitations....but will only run up to 4250-4300 rpms. I have only had it out 3 times, same results all 3 times. I figured with this prop and everything I read on this site it should be turning around 5000-5200 rpms.

What should I be looking at, if anything? it shows about 42 mph on the speedos, this thing should run close to 50 with only driver and passenger, shouldn't it?

The lake I go to is about 2200 ft elev. The previous owner ran it at around 4500 ft.

HELP make it go faster!

Thanks, Gary

That should get you started. Lots of guys will be chiming in soon with first hand experience.
Always verify speed with GPS and one last thing: POST SOME PICS!!!!

RPMs seem a bit low but 42-43 mph top end with that prop and elevation sounds about right to me.

What are the vents in the dash supposed to be hooked to? one is plugged and has a 3/8 barb fitting the other is just open, looks like it was for a heater hose or something.

What can I do as far as a tune up on the LT1? clean air filter, change plugs, what else?
