View Full Version : Plug&Play Ballast question
hello all
I've orderd my x45 with the plug&play option
I understand that for each model boat Fly High has it's own set of sacs
is that correct? and if so, which sacs do i need to order?
Thanks.
BTW - i've added an Explanation file on the Plug&play ballast system for those who don't know what it is...
Thanks for attaching the file, good read.

You need the X-45 specific bags (http://www.wakemakers.com/mastercraft-x-45-plug-n-play-ballast.html).

That's the material that Fly High uses to construct their bags. Just to clarify, this is the official Fly High system for the X-45 equipped with the Plug-and-Play option.

So it looks like there is an electric valve or valves installed before the hard tanks and sacks that allows you to fill either the tanks, sacks or both? The hard tanks have an overflow, but the sacks don't? I've seen the manual fly high valve setup, but I didn't realize Mastercraft had an electric valve setup. I like my 2006 fat sac setup where you just overflow the tanks into the sacks and the sacks use the hard tank overflow. No timers to mess around with either.

what are the sizes of those bags?
if i want only the rear bags which bags do i need to order?

That's what i had on my 2010.. but when i choose the "all full" setup from the memory list it filled both ballast and bags.. so it prevent me using the memories.
it's not a problem on the 2006 because you don't have memories for the PP and Ballast settings.. ;)
i'll tell you which one works better after i'll get my new boat.

Jason, which bags are those? Aren't they identical to the X-star supplemental ballast system? That is what bags I have in mine and I could not imagine anything fitting better.

The Plug-and-Play option is nearly identical to the additional ballast upgrades we've offered for the X-Star and X-2 for some time now, with the only difference being that the distribution valves are controlled form the dash using electronic solenoids. Otherwise it's the same setup.

The total capacity of the system is 1,220 (in addition to the factory tanks). For some reason we don't have dimensions, but I'll get them for you.

The bags for Plug-and-Play boats are only sold as complete kits, so you don't have an option to order just the rear bags. We can sell you the X-Star specific rear bags, which fit pretty well in an X-45 (see the below post) if you only want to do bags in the rear.

They're actually different. I have no idea why, but Mastercraft had Fly High make new bags for all of the models that are specific to the Plug-and-Play option. It may have something to do with the location of the fittings for connection to the plumbing in the boat, but I haven't confirmed that.

So the benefit is not having to manually flip a valve vs the old system. As far as how it integrates into the B.I.G.-you still have to visually monitor the sacks for how full they are? My understanding is that you can save a rider profile with ballast, speed and trim tab settings. Not sure I see a big benefit over just overflowing the tanks until the capacity of the sacks can be monitored. Maybe someone with actual experience can explain it to me.

Thanks.
I think i'll go with the x-star rear bags.

Nice wave! Might even be better at 1mph slower.

that is a long a$$ wake, nice.
In order to understand this better....on my 08 X2 I installed FH fitted sacs, two in rear and one in bow. Plumbed them to the overflow of the hard tanks and programmed the pumps to 6 minutes. We never had a problem. No valves or additional switches
What is the advantage of the three way valves, as I cant see why someone would want to fill the bags and not the hard tanks first??
All worked very well on my X-2

Great looking setup, glad you were able to get everything you needed!

That's what it comes down to for most of our customers as well. Some people like the ability to fill the bags and not the tanks, or fill the tanks and know that ONLY the tanks are going to have water in them.
Both methods are perfectly functional though, so just choose whichever one works best for you.

Depends on your boat as well. We prefer the shape of our X-star's wake (for boarding not surfing) by filling FH sacs in the lockers, but not using the built in ballast. We get a nice wake shape and size with less total ballast as the built in tanks are centered farther forward.

I'm assuming that if you use rider profiles they will only fill/empty the factory tanks so we may just keep the bags full all the time.

Very good point, especially on the X-Star with the placement of the "rear" tanks.

Correct, presets will only control the duration the pump runs for, so you need to set the PNP switch to the correct location.
