Well, hate to do it, but need to. I sufferd a season ending injury over labor day weekend @ Lake Austin. Just had surgery to repair a pectoralis major muscle rupture. So I just listed my new, never skied on, 2010 HO Magnum for sale in the market forum. Brand new, only thing it did was sit in the tower rack. Have padded HO slalom bag as well.

Sorry about your injury. Hand through the handle in a fall?

No, I wish the story was that good.....

.....I was trying to coach my better half on how to load the boat on the trailer. She has always counted on me to do all the backing of the trailer and loading/unloading of the boat. She asked me to teach her so that she could help make things go smoother at the ramp. Well, the ramp was empty when we came in, so she offered to try and pull the boat on the trailer, her first time. Here is the stupid part, for some reason I climbed on the trailer thinking I could help her better, big mistake. I told her to put the boat in neutral on her approach, she froze up and actually increased speed, I tried with all my strength to slow the boat with my left arm, but the boat went right through me, hyper extending it. I heard a pop and new it was bad. The ER Dr in Austin said strained or torn rotator cuff, so I went home to Houston, iced it, waited about a week. Pain got much worse, went to a highly recommended Sports Orthopedic surgeon, he did a few test, confirmed diagnosis of pectoralis major muscle rupture w/ an MRI, and did the surgery. So here I am. She feels horrible, but its not her fault. I was the idiot standing on the trailer. No real damage done to the boat, just a torn guide pad cover on the trailer and a scuff on the rub rail. Lesson learned. I'm done for the season, and probably most of next season.

Bummer. I have been there on the ramp. Threw myself between the boat and the pier. Got lucky. :o

Man sorry to hear that, Got chest wall contusion (bruised ribs) and would have had worse if I hadn't had my life jacket on once. Now although I love my X1 she'll go for fiberglass work before I'll get between her and anything else.

You will be back next spring. I had similar to what you have plus 3 other issues (Torn bicep tendon, labrum tear and rotator cuff). First surgery I had on my left shoulder was in November (Thanksgiving week) and I was on the water by May the next year. Right shoulder surgery was the first week of December and I was back on the water by April the next year. Get on the PT and work your *ss off. You will be back on the water before you know it.

Was this the result of a skiing accident?

Sorry to hear about your injury! I wish you a speedy recovery, commit to skiing in the spring and prepare/rehab like you will be skiing. You will be surprised how motivating the passion for skiing is. Maybe season end-er but not career ending!?! keep the ski and place it in your house where you will see it a lot(maybe like next to your tv so that when you sit down to watch tv instead you stretch or exercise) it will help to remind you.

It is great to have help around the dock with the boat and some women can be as good as any man........But I let them drive the truck and trailer.....for a couple of reasons. One, most of them will not freak in the truck they just put on the breaks and look back at you like " why won't it back straight?" No emergency here, could take for ever and if I get people waiting then I will tie the boat, relieve the driver and do it all my self. Two, you have the boat driving knowledge, it's your boat and putting it on the trailer is the most complicated part(skill required). Once the trailer is in position then the burden is on boat driver(who has done this plenty of times). If the Friend/girlfriend/non comp boat owner wants to help, let'em drive the truck.....and if they cant handle the truck and trailer, they sure as hell ain't driving my boat!

Loading the boat is the critical process, let the experienced person do it.

Thanks for all of the encouragement. I spent the first few days after surgery really depressed, reading about all of the painfull rehab, and that even after the surgery, that I would loose strength in my left arm. After reading your post, I feel a better about my skiing future. The Dr is removing the staples next week, 6-7 more weeks in a sling, with some PT starting after the 4th week.

Don't give up gts-20.... One month ago today, I had an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion in my neck..... Basically they inserted 2 titanium plates and 6 screws in my neck..... Put the boat on ice (winterized) until spring.... The doc says I will be able to get back on the ski in spring....

She's my girlfriend of 2+ years...lol, the funny thing about this....I was raised around boats, and I have owned tow boats for years, but this boat is actually in both of our names. It was our first purchase together and we split the cost 50/50. She is a good, not great, but good boat driver when it comes to pulling me. She gets nervous when the water is crowded, and till now, has not wanted to drive around the dock or load/unload. She is very, very smart, graduated from A&M (I went to UT, so a divided relationship), and is a very successful business woman.

You are on the same page as she is now about the truck/trailer idea. Last night she said she wants me to teach her how to back the trailer so she can help out more, and I agree, but I think she should be able to do it all. She is now a boat owner, and needs to be able to perform all the tasks involved in that.

Our local MC dealer, Houston Mastercraft, has done a women's only clinic in the past. They spend a weekend, all women, teaching backing trailers, loading and unloading boats, boat driving and dock maneuvering. Each girl gets to try everything. They are trying to put another clinic on before the end of the season. She is very interested in that. I think I make her nervous when I try to teach her.

If there are any accomplished female tow boat drivers in the Houston/Austin area that would be interested in spending some time on the water instructing and skiing, let me know.

Sorry about your injury- Did mine in 2004 - hit a buoy fully stretched out (aka- narrow and late...), ski skipped out and my right arm was the first thing that caught the water. Drove myself to the hospital- couldn't reach 5th or reverse with my right hand. Surgery in late August, snow skiing 12/1, waterskiing in April (never went back to that HO though). Some of my best skiing was in 05-06. I remember the pain post surgery though. It's a tough road but you'll get through it. It was a solid year before I was fully back to normal, but skiing didn't take that long.

I didn't do this with my pec, but I am seeing someone who uses the Graston technique for my ankle. It addresses soft tissue damage (aka scar tissue) and the results have been awesome. Highly recommend...

Both were just instances of me abusing myself. Water Polo, skateboard fall, skiing and a few other sports injuries.

I was an idiot and should have gone to the doctor immediately, but thought I could get over it. By the time I could no longer lift my hands above my head and my shoulders would dislocate during a night's sleep, I realized it was time for some screws and bone grinding! :)

That is an absolutely brilliant idea! I cringe sometimes watching guys yelling at their wives/girlfriends/kids on the ramp. I know when my wife was learning it was the most stressfull part of the day and a bad time on the ramp would totally negate a great day on the water. I hope they do a mens clinic too, God knows some of us could use it.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Whatever you do don't sell that ski. Keep it and use it as your motivator to work through this injury and get back out there on the water next year. Now go and remove that ski from the market place before someone buys it!

I hope they have the clinic, but if they don't, my girlfriend might try to put something together herself. I spoke to her at lunch and she was asking how she could get in touch with women that might be interested in attending one.

I agree.... I do have another ski, I just always wanted to try the Magnum, finally bought it, and now can't use it. I was going to sell it instead of staring at it all season/off season, and to give someone else a chance to ski it, But I never thought about using it as a motivator. If no one wants it, I might just hang it above the TV like someone suggested earlier, and use it as a goal to shoot for.

....Also, if anyone wants to try it out, let me know, Any bigger guys out there that want to give the ski a try for me?

Update: Wish me luck guys... I get the staples taken out today, then evaluted as to the results of the surgery. I hope the Dr. has good news for me. I would love to think I could start some PT in a few weeks afters getting out of this shoulder immobilizer.
