15W40 is fine, but assuming you have the throttle body injected 350, I would suggest using an oil that hasn't had the ZDDP levels reduced. I prefer Valvoline VR1. It comes in a straight 40W as well as a 20W50. I use the 20W50 with good results. There are other brands that didn't reduce the ZDDP: I believe Royal Purple or Chevron Delo have some oils that would fit the bill. I can't remember if Mobil 1 has an option.

I have seen this discussed many times before looking through the old posts on this subject. I have since been lurking over at bobistheoilguy.com and have come to the conclusion that the VR1 is not as good as say Shell Rotella 15w40 as far as zinc and phophorus levels are concerned. Even the new CJ-4 Rotella contains more zinc and phos than the VR1 according to these VOA's (virgin oil analysis) here (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=819165&fpart=2), here (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=134913&Number=1939470), and here (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1056852).

I'm far from an expert on the subject, but for those of us with the flat tappets Rotella would be a better choice than the VR1 in my opinion. Mobil 1 (http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Files/Mobil_1_Product_Guide.pdf) would be a superior choice as well.

Footin, does your manual say SAE30? Mine does and I have been hesitant to change until someone provides a better solution than me standing at the shelf saying eni, meni, mini, mo...:D

According to the Indmar 1994-2002 operators manual (http://www.indmar.com/About/ContactIndmar/Manual1994_2002web.pdf)(page 37)they recommend 15w40.

Interesting... of course I have the manual that came with the boat so there is no way to have it dated to 2002 when it was printed earlier than 1994.

I do not have the manual to my boat, I have always used Mobil1 in this boat.
