View Full Version : Swim platform rubber stuff...where can I get some more?

As some of you might recall, I had a blowout that took out my right fender a couple months ago. I finally got the new fender all installed and it is beautiful after spending $900.

Now I need some grip to cover the fender. The ideal stuff would be the same as what is on my swim platform. Anyone know where I can get some of this?

If I can't find any of that, will probably go with standard Sea Dek Black foam covering.

Dealer can get it pre-cut or in rolls.

My dealer could not tell me how much it costs, and had to email a guy in Tennessee to find out. He said the new trailers have that sort of grip on them and that they are precut for the trailer. That would be sweet.

I will see if I ever hear back from them.

I called before and they took my name and number to see if they could find any of the 06 original stuff...Never heard back.

Does anyone have a pic of a late model trailer with the MC grip logo?

I have an entire platform of the rubber - same as your swim platform - only gray... Make me an offer.

I would prefer black to keep everything matching, but the gray might look cool too. I am still waiting for dealership to tell me what they would charge me for black...then I would offer you a bit less than that for being a less than optimal color...;);)

For sure sell it to whoever makes the first offer you like...you snooze, you lose.

TX, what exactly are you referring to? The stuff on my swimstep came that way when I bought it, not sure if it is the original.

The dealer never called me back, but I called them yesterday. They went ahead and ordered it and never let me know. MC has to make the trailer pads custom, so they will take a few weeks to get to my dealer. And the precut pads will cost $190. He said they would save it for me when it comes. They really should have let me know cost first if they expect me to buy it. I think he was hinting that they wanted to keep a set onhand regardless and that is probably why they did not call me to let me know the price.

The Seadek would be $79, but I would have to trim it myself.

Which way would you guys go? Does anyone have a pic of the 2010 grip design on their trailer?

Sea Dek also has my patterns for a tandem axle trailer. You can have them pre-cut them, but they will most likely be close in cost to the MC ones.

Here is my drawing so you can check dimensions...

I cut the SeaDek material myself, using the old trailer pads as templates. It took maybe 10 minutes to cut and the material looks and works great.

x2. The product itself is really, really nice. It is so much better than the OEM rubber.

I chose grey over black to help with the heat of the pad and to tie in the grey stripe on my boat.

looks like you had a floor mat made also?? If i may ask, for boat or for the tow vehicle?

The floor mat was for the driver's footwell on the boat. The footwell on the 197 is not carpeted.

I love that stuff. I replaced all the tred pads on the back of my boat with it.

Oh, and fine choice of beers! Code Blue! :D

Sodar those look awesome. Can you explain the black outline around the pads. How much did you spend for just the swim platform? Seadek sent me some samples and I notice there are two thicknesses. Which did you use for your swim platform? Thanks

Sodar

They laminate the pads for anything thicker than 5 mm. I have 8mm pads... a 5mm black pad laminated to the 3mm grey pad. The black surround you are seeing is the edge profile. They cut it so the bottom color is revealed. . Price for the trailer pads, footwell and platform was ~$400... the platform was the most expensive, by far because of the faux teak and MasterCraft logo.

Thanks, Sodar! That looks terrific.

Curious as to why you put 'NO STEP' on the fender...pretty much the easiest way that I always get into and out of the boat. I guess when on the trailer, you hop on the swimstep?

And those are the freaking cleanest fenders I have ever seen that weren't in the dealership!

"No Step" on the step pad?

Looks great! Material looks very high quality.

I spent a lot of $$$$ to fix the fenders on my '96 from people stepping on the hump, rather than on the steps that are supported by the trailer. If the new fenders did not have the recessed pad in the fenders, I would not have put a step there and kept it blank like my '96.

In any event, the black and grey looks really really good.

What happened on your '96? Cracking or scratching?

I haven't noticed any damage on my '02 from stepping on the hump area (on the black pad of course)...

Stress cracks where the hump meets the flat part.

Different strokes for different folks. It makes me sleep better at night.

Ok, I take that back... I have 3 small stress cracks in that spot, but I wasn't sure what had caused them :(

Did you do the repairs yourself?

Sodar
09-24-2010, 12:36 AM
No, I didn't. I had a glass guy do it and then re-gel them.

The repair itself was not that painful... just grind the stress cracks out, fill them and smooth them out... it was the gel that doubled the price of the repair.

I will have to watch for it, but my fender seems very very stiff. I have been in and out of that boat a lot in my garage, and my repeated 225 pounds has not caused a problem so far. The way the 45 sits on the boat, stepping on the front fender support doesn't help because you are just in front of the tower and the rear support makes it a bit hard to sneak into the boat because you are even with the storage hatches and can't 'step into' the boat.

I had a brilliant idea to use Sodar's plans and get some seadek, but instead of 'no Step' I would have it say 'Mastercraft' right there.

They gave me a preliminary quote of $260. Hard to believe that I found traction pads more expensive than what MC was going to cost. I will update once I get actual written confirmation.

I could get a big enough sheet of straight black only that I cut myself for $75. I wonder if I am missing something here.

Mine is going to be the same color as Sodar's, but like this:

Tall Red, not sure what makes the step pads on your fenders so expensive, maybe the Mastercraft logo?
I had to get a new pad for one of my X2 fenders, just the raised pattern, not MC logo, and IIRC it was about $40 or 50.

Sodar, what did you glue down your pads with?
I used 3M spray contact adhesive, the good stuff (90 or whatever, green can I think) and it held on the fender pad. My swimdeck pad came off and I used the same stuff and after a couple trips, it's peeling up again. Prepped both sides with acetone, but it ain't sticking.

I expressed some sticker shock at the initial quote of $250. The logos are $20 per pad and I was able to get the price down by ordering slightly thinner pads and whining a bit.

The order includes all of the pads for my trailer, so there are 7 total pieces, I guess that is why it costs so much?

The SeaDek comes with an adhesive on it, and it is supposed to be the bombdiggity adhesive...hopefully it sticks.

My Sea Dek came in today. Big thanks to Sodar for providing the original template to Sea Dek that they could then modify for my specific desires. The Sea Dek goes on nice and easy. As long as it lasts a few years I will consider this one of the sweetest additions to the trailer and boat I have done.

Looks Good!

I guess I should have told you that to center the MasterCraft of the fenders, you have to center it 18" from the front edge. :o

The original quote was $250. I whined and got it down some from that, and they made the pads thinner than the original quote. These do not need to be thick or soft, really, just a little traction when getting out of the boat on the trailer.

I think that since the logo is so big, it actually would have looked strange to not have it centered on the pad. So I am very happy with it how it is.
