View Full Version : Head clearance on an x-star?

Couple questions.. there is a low bridge on my lake that I believe has a clearance of about 54 inches.

1. Do the towers fold down very easily?

2. Would an x-star even fit under that with the towers folded down?

No and No. An X-star with its tower folded is not higher than other MCs or most inboards. But 54 inches is incredibly low.

With enough ballast and the tower folded you could probably make it under there. Just make sure there's no chance of the water rising once you're on the other side.

That's a really low bridge to have on a navigable waterway. I'd double check the clearance.

So I went and measured it and it looks more like about 60 inches.

I can't seem to find anywhere that has the numbers in the specs for the x-star.

Do you own an xstar already? I could go measure mine from the water line to where I think the tower folds down to. (I've never folded my tower, but with 4 speakers and 4 lights it's probably not the easiest tower to fold, 2 man job)

Just as a guess, I would say the clearance from waterline to the top of the folded tower is close to 4 feet.

Using the known height of my son 4 years ago when this image was obtained, the blue boxes on the right of the image should be darn close to 1 foot each.

Just measured mine, as far as I can tell you need at least 54" but no more than 58". With full ballast and at least 6 adults, you should only need 54-56" of clearance under the bridge. More people in the bow would be best.

Anyone on that lake with an x-star willing to try it?
