So for those of us who cannot afford a new Mastercraft (yet!), what kind of starter boat would you guys recommend? Looking for something 19-21ft that you can ski behind. Price range would be below $18K.

Welcome to the Board!
Find an older Mastercraft. The options below 18 k should be good. This crowd has enough advice on buying a boat to make you go blind reading it.

You should have no problem finding a great MC for that. Look in the Markeplace on this site. May be something that peaks your interest.

My first MC was an '88 ProStar 190. Got it in 1999 for under $10k. Used it for 3 years and sold it for what I had in it and upgraded it a few years. You should be able to find alot for under $18k. New is nice but a few years old is not bad either and they hold their value.
Try www.boattraderonline.com. It is a pretty good site to browse.
Good luck

For around $15K, you could get yourself a 91--94 Prostar. No need to upgrade. :D

Buy my boat.
I have a 1999 Sportstar 190 Closed bow that I would sell. The boat is red/white and in excellent condition. It has the 310hp EFI engine with 130 hours. Also included are MC cover and single axle MC trailer. This boat would be available around $18K or less. I would also deliver within reason.

Here is the deal of the summer, providing you can come to an agreement. Super nice boat for a 1991 model.

Thanks for the info, but I'm still in the research phase of this process. Probably will think seriously about buying this winter/next spring.

That 91 does look beautiful, though...
