Is it broken or have high hours?

That engine is solid. Unless there is specific reason (or just the desire for the fun) I'd leave well enough alone. But.. If I were a skilled engine wrencher, I'd love to have a newly refurbished engine. I envy the engine wrenchers. Enginenut is a good engine guy.

However, I'm due a new carb on my 351. Just because. :D

Great advise, I have 2700 hrs on my 351 with only the following being replaced not because of failure just because...

timing chain
risers
new carb
electric ignition
plugs/wires/ect

Thing still pulls strong and will run 44 with me and one person in it. Not bad at all!

FORD for LIFE!

I am a firm believer in maintaining things. If it needs to be worked on ---I go for making it bullet proof. I am also a firm believer in not wasting money and throwing away good parts. When I have to go into this 351w ho engine it will be built to deliver more hp without sacrificing durability.

When you decide to go big go 408 stroker. Big Block power and torque in a nice compact package for not much more money. 400/400 is not out of reach with a solid blueprinted 408 windsor, they are great motors!

Cool. Never bulletproofed a windsor before. Leary of short stroke engines. How many hours on your 400/400 now? You have a great hp to weight ratio. Right now my son has a 454/ 550 plus right now on the engine stand that will be going into a 16 foot airboat soon. I have a 454/425 plus on my airboat. Next stop something in the 600 hp range when this 454 gets tired. When you decide to go big go 408 stroker. Not in there yet, when the 351 comes out that is what will be waiting. Im just a mustang guy that knows a thing or two about Fords.

It's not broke yet but does act like it has
a cracked piston or a broke ring as far as that goes I do some motor work
