According to my hull ID MBCHHFR6A292 I Have an 8.1 liter engine in my 92 Maristar 240. That equals 494 cubic inches. I always thought I had a chev. 454. Did Chevy make a 494 motor? Was this ever a stock motor for that year mastercraft, and what would the horsepower be for this motor. Any help or insight would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

If I recall correctly, that engine speced at 340 HP when GM put it in the 2500 / 3500 series light duty vehicles. I'd say that is about right for your application as well. It may have been turned down a bit for other applications.

That distributor sure looks funny sitting on the rear of the engine...... :D

That looks like a 454.

For that year it would have been around 400hp or so.

Does anyone know if mastercraft ever put 496 chevy motors in 92 maristar 240's. My hull ID says I should have an 8.1 liter engine. MBCHHFR6A292 I sure would like to get to the bottom of this. I guess I just need to e-mail my engine ser. # to indmar.

Was the 8.1L even made in 1992? I'm thinking closer to 2000 before it was even produced by GM in their vehicles.

Pretty sure the 8.1L was a poured casting at the Foundry in Defiance, back in the day. Not too many but I remember desiging some dunnage for the cores.

My guess is that you got this info out of the FAQ section of the site. That info is for the newer boats... ~2000 and newer.

Your HIN codes maybe different... actually, they are most likely different. As suggested, email Indmar for info specific to your engine.

It does look like a 454, though. 496's were not installed into MCs until the 2000's

The owners manual for the 92 Maristar 240 does not list the 8.1 L engine as an option. Only two Chevys listed, the 350 HO and the 454.

That engine looks smaller than the 454 in my '89.

You do not have a 8.1L
that was not offered till MUCH later.
the HIN ID codes posted here are not very accurate with the older boats. My guess is you are correct about the 454.
The 8.1 is a MPFI, TB in front

My boat has a 454 and it looks identical. Very thirsty motor.
