One of the pins broke off of the connector for my trailer lights. I wanted to replace the connector but ran into a snag, I think??? I have 5 wires going into a 4 prong connector. What gives??

Have you traced out the wires yet? Perhaps two area ground or light the brake lights, etc.

I have seen that, the white remained disconnected, I think.

The white is grounded to the trailer. Allow plenty of extra slack as the wire fibers wear out and become disconnected frequently. Extra slack will make it easy to strip and reconnect later.

For reference only:

If I recall correctly;
The 5 wire connector supplies a seperate tail connection, where the 4 wire allows a splice out to each tail connection from one feed. Splice a new 4-way. Done deal...

(Gee I hope I have told this correctly)..... :toast:

Only a guess:
Black/green stripe = right tail light
Black/Yellow stripe = left tail light

Thanks for the link. Looks like the do have a lot of stuff!! Not my connector though. Boy I hate the overpriced shipping at some sites. I’ve looked around a while with not much luck. I called the boaters world and he tried to tell me the shipping was inline with the distance the part had to travel, (from VA to PA). That kills me

Mark, did you try Boatfix.com?

Agree on shipping charges. They should be able to put it in a letter sized envelope and mail it to you for half a buck!

Just be thankful you don't have a border... by the time I paid all the shipping and brokerage on a $16.40 US part from Boat Buddy, it was over $100 CDN!

Good point Mag -- I was looking at 5-wire..

Mark, if all you need is a 4 -wire, you should be able to get it just about anywhere.

Just get a 4-wire. When you splice it in, but both brown's together with the 1 brown coming out of the plug. You'll be ok.

Neil, I need the 4 prong but 5 wire.

mag, The parts store has the 4 prong 4 wire and the 5 prong 5 wire.
Jimmer, I may do that. HeII I think I have a 4/4 in the garage right now
