Just need a little help to fix my 85 ... had transmission rebuilt last summer... ran fine. This past weekend unloaded off trailer.. put in gear.. idled away from dock... popped and then went back into neutral. Checked fluid level... it's low but no transmission fluid leak can be found. Not in hull or water cooler. Any thoughts as to what the heck happened????

Did you pressure test the oil cooler?

More details. Did you hear any rateling noises? Did you loose forward and reverse?

I always tell people to first check the damper plate. That is where the tranny shaft connects with the fly wheel. Most times when the go there will be metal fragments in the bell housing. Take off the starter and take a look. I rebuilt my old 86 velvet drive last year and the damper plate failed 2 months later. Do a search on damper there are several threads on this site.
