Hey all,

Through a local marine audio shop, we installed 2 Wetsounds SST-65 tower speakers, a 10" Hertz sub and box, and an Exile 5 channel amplifier.

We had an existing Kenwood deck in the boat, along with the usual 4 stock Clarion's from the 2003 boats. Also had 2 existing batteries in the boat...1 running the the audio, and the other running the normal functions.

The aftermarket gear was all installed professionally through the audio shop.

Question though...the deck won't operate normally if the music gets turned up too loud. Once it hits a certain volume (around 15 or 20), the deck automatically shuts off, and restarts itself. All of the gauges on the dash are also not working, minus the Perfect Pass and the depth finder. The gauges have flickered on and off a few times, but have been at 0 95% of the time.

Anyone know what the issue might be? Is this a wiring issue? Is it a battery issue? It is an installation issue? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thx!

Poor ground to the grounding block maybe.

Bad ground or a ground loop somewhere.

Agreed, sounds like a grounding issue.

Could that be the cause of both of the issues?

I am far from an audio junkie...but what is the reason why only some of the gauges are working, and why the deck will allow a certain volume, and then turn off?

To a point the source unit can obtain a ground via the above-ground RCA shield connections when a better ground is absent. However, once the current draw passes that very small threshold the voltage drops and this shuts down the source unit.

Just find and fix the ground problem.
