What is your biggest pet peeve in your boat. I have found that flip flops laying about to be aggravating as anything. I have came pretty close to throwing a few pair overboard. Everyone thinks I'm nuts, about how particular I am the neatness of the floor. I fixed that
problem a couple of weeks ago, instead of saying something or doing the work myself, I let everything go. I was in the water on deck, I was funny watching everybody fumble about. When I was finished with my session the boat was tidy and my fiancee' was already coiling the rope before I was on the platform. It was great!

People stepping on the side (gunnels) or on the seat when getting in the boat with shoes that just walked across a sandy/rocky beach.
I try to tie up on the drivers side to eliminate the temptation of stepping on the seat. I also make a point to leave all shoes behind on the dock, but sometimes guests just don't get it.

is there any nice way to hint at the suggestion of no shoes alowed
Flatwaterfooter

No reason to hint. I flat out tell people take your shoes off and dip your feet in the water I want to keep all sand and dirt out of the boat taht I can. 95% of the people listen.
Most of the sand that ends up in the boat is from the kids. You think you get all the sand off of them, but it falls out of everywhere on them.

Last week we drove the boat over to the marina to get a bite to eat. I parked it in a slip and we went up to get a table. After being there for about 30 minutes, I decided that I'd better take a look and make sure the boat was ok since I couldn't see it from our table...and I had my video camera and digital camera in the boat as well, so I wanted to make sure no one was lingering around it, looking for something to steal.
So I get up and walk over to get a view of the boat and there's 3 or 4 kids climbing all over the back of it and jumping off of my swim platform. I just about lost it!!! And the parents of the kids were sitting on a picnic table in front of the slips, just letting them do it!!!
I just don't understand people anymore! What were these people thinking??? Just letting their kids climb and jump around on someone elses boat??? I went down there and yelled at the kids to get their A$$e$ off of my boat, and to stay away from it. I turned around and gave the parents a "look" and they just sat there and never said anything. I couldn't believe it!

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
Mine are, in no particular order:
-Shoes off, before getting into the boat.
-No chocolate in the boat.
-Sit down while boat is moving
-Don't play radio loud when picking up a skier or starting to pull skier
-Spotter needs to pay attention to skier at all times, no jibber jabbering
-Everyone gets a turn
I'm sure I can think of more...

My wife says I am the only one who hates shoes laying in the bottom of the boat. HAAAAH there is more than one person who wants to throw the damn things overboard when I trip/step on them. I am showing her this thread tonight.
Pet peeve.
The drivers seat rubs and squeeks against the side wall. Pretty small stuff though.

In no particular order:
-Fins raked accross the vinyl
-Shoes stepping on the seats
-Careless gear slinging
-Food dropped on the carpet
-Rope tossed and tangled
I can handle a little dirt, but check the shoes for muck before you get in and if it's obvious you got the boat dirty - at least make an effort to wipe it up.
That is all...for now. :)

I think I have to agree with wearing sandy/dirty shoes into the boat as being my #1 pet peeve. Last year some friends of my wife came along with us, and both adults and the two kids all walked across the wet sandy beach and onto the dock, and started to get in the boat with their shoes on. I looked at my wife and she quickly recognized my irritation, so she asked them (since they were more her friends) to take their shoes off. I usually come across as being the anal one because I'm the one who always has to say something about people making a mess in the boat, but then again, I'm the one who has to clean it up.
My experience has been that most people (who don't own one) tend to think of a boat as a utility vehicle of some sort, and that it's o.k. to wear dirty shoes in it, eat anything (no matter how messy) in it, and to get in and allow your life jacket and swim suit to drain into the floor. I certainly want everyone that goes with us to have fun, but not at the expense of my boat, and not at the expense of me spending hours cleaning it afterwards.

People who are so anal about their boats that they are too uptight to just enjoy it and allow their passengers/guests/children have a good time too. One reason I prefer to go out on my own boat.
No offense... :o I think everyone on this Team Talk is great... but c'mon, water on your carpet???? That's what bilge pumps are for.

Sort of gets back to the old "rules" thread.
1. No shoes in the boats.
2. No stepping on the seats (this is why the back seat doesn't get put in much).
3. No eating in the boat. I've tried to get crushed cheetos out of the carpet once. If you want to eat, go sit on the back with the food over the platform. The view is better there anyway.
4. Drinks are permitted in the boat, but spilling them is not. A friend of mine laughed at this one for about 5 minutes then proceeded to spill beer all over the carpet. He spent the rest of the day apologizing. That story always makes me laugh.
5. If you leave me to clean up, wipe down, and put the cover on, I will talk trash about you to those that do stay.

We lay a towel on the floor of the boat right in front of the back seat, where everyone steps in. It does a great job soaking up the water and keeping it off of the carpet. Anything to keep the wear and tear to a minimum...... :D

My 2 brothers and I (main operators of the boat) are pretty strict about the boat.
1. No shoes
2. No drinks except for water
3. No food
Might seem a little uptight but there is no need for food, drinks, and shoes when we are on a 200 acre private lake and all that stuff is back at the house/dock.
I guess this is also why everyone thinks that our 99 190 is brand new. That is those who arn't familiar with the new MasterCraft styles.

Sorry, not much dirt around us, launch from dock and never beach, so I have to get going with water in the carpet. In the past have had mold problems on the seats so like to keep seats and carpet dry if possible. Carpet looks like a black lab anyway so you would think it would shed water by now!:o

Mold can be a problem. After using my boat, I usually prop up the seat cushions and leave the cover off the boat overnight so it can dry out. I also clean it (wash, vac) fairly regularly, so I don't worry too much about crumbs or spills.
But then again, if my boat was brand new or like new condition, I'd probably be more particular (like a certain car I own) like you guys. I'm sure your boats are a lot nicer/cleaner than mine! Mine is just a tool... (Sacrilege!!!! ) for pulling me through the course.
It's not like you can keep the carpet totally dry (well, maybe some of you can :worthy: ) and I don't expect newbies to do this, but it is nice to let most of the water drain from your shorts/vest/wetsuit/boots before getting in the boat.
In general, I'll cut the non-regulars some slack...just a pinch though. ;)
Footin
07-06-2005, 11:11 AM
It is difficult to keep the boat dry....After a day of skiing or familty boating mine gets pretty wet inside.
When I get home I prop up all the cushions. To speed up the drying process I have a celing fan mounted in my garage above the boat, just flip the switch and it dries pretty quick.

General disrespect. Anything from hitting the side of the boat with a ski to not helping out with some gas money
I'm with you Flatwater footer. It bothers me when your nice enough to invite people to spend the day with you and they in turn show complete disrespect for your things.
On vacation last summer my wife invited her sister and her significant other to ski with us. They laid there like a dead fish and never raised a hand to help, didn't offer to pay gas and didn't offer to help clean the boat at the end of the day. The worst part was when my sister in-laws boyfriend decided to put on his wakeboard and then proceed to jump off of the platform backwards and allowed his board to hit the back of the boat and left me with several scratches in my gel coat. I gave my wife the "Look of Death" as I didn't pay $50K for a boat to have some simpleton destroy it. Needless to say, This was the last time that I have invited them to join us.
My biggest pet peeve on the boat is other people not watching their kids. We take friends and their kids out with us from time to time. Before we launch I always explain the rules on our boat.
"Kids Rules"
1.Life jacket stays on from the time the boat launches until the boat comes out of the water.
2.No standing or moving while the boat is motion.
3.No whinning.
4.If you drop something on the carpet pick it up.
We were out the other day with a friend and his 2 boys. Told them the same thing. They didn't listen well and Dad ignored them. :( At one point while I was wakeboarding I see one of them leaning way over the side to "feel" the water. And then I see my husband grab his foot as he is going over the side. Dad is still isn't paying any attention to them.
Thankfully not all are like this. Only about 1 or 2 times a year do we have this problem. The rest are great. :)

We launch from our boat lift, so mainly it has to do with people getting in and out of the boat.
-Don't grab the windshield.
-Take off your shoes. (that ones for my father in law who likes to wear his tennis shoes in the boat.....I make it a point to stare at him while taking off my own shoes) :D
-No food. (No need for food, we're at a lakehouse for god sake with all the food you ever want to eat....before or after we go out.)
-And yes, No jumping out of the water, directly into the boat soaking wet.
Thank you to the friends and relatives who fill me with so many pet peeve ideas.......but like so many have said......if you don't own it you don't appreciate it.

There are competitive skiers and wakeboarders. And there are recreational boaters.

I've read posts on this board that imply that pulling a tube behind a mastercraft is the 8th deadly sin.
As someone with 3 kids and someone who takes folks out boating for their first time, I have no problem pulling them on a tube behind my mastercraft (but I never get within 100 yds of anyone pulling a skier or boarder).
As long as we Mastercraft owners continue to exemplify safe, responsible, and fun seamanship, it's all good.

The platform is the only part of my boat I'm not too worried about getting some scratches on it. A few coats of oil and it's good as new. I'd rather have people put their skis on on the platform than with them hanging off, kicking the hull.
I don't equate doing a few simple things to keep a boat clean to a floating museum though. Getting into someone's carpeted boat with muddy shoes is just as inconsiderate as tracking up his through his living room in my opinion. Just not something I'd do, nor is it something on which my good time on the water depends.
Some people in my family are a little more lax with the rules in their boats than I am in mine. It definitely shows. And even though they don't have a problem with shoes in their boat, I still take mine off.

I agree with Maristarman. I know that when a boat gets used it get dirty and especially wet. There should be some common courtesy though. You rarely see people leave an ocean beach and climb straight into their car without getting the sand off their feet. Why should a boat be any different.
I launch at public ramps whenever we go out. One of my biggest, besides the obvious of people who apparently have never pulled a boat trailer before trying to back and launch, is the people who are driving around just to go see the water. Park in the car parking area and get out of your car you lazy jackass! It is hard enough to maneuver a trailer around without idiots down there sightseeing.
These are the same people who think that it is OK to park in trailer parking spots. Why the sheriff doesn't give parking tickets for that I will never know! Over the fourth we had to park two trailers a quarter-mile down the road while there were at least two trailer parking spots that had cars parked two-deep in them. It was frustrating at best.

They may be different years and models from showroom fresh to slightly used but one thing is certain...we all take great pride in owning a Mastercraft and the "niiiice boat" comments at the ramp don't hurt either
1)Sand in the boat.
2)Standing on the back panels/engine cover with a dripping/soaked vest. Especially after you have just given them the best pull of the trip.
3)That famous swirl mark from the foot on the trailer fender as they twist to get in to check out your ride.

From what I gather most of boating here is done in fresh water, so getting huge amounts of water in the boat would NEVER bother me. Problem is I boat in salt water, therefore have a completely different view on this. I have intentionally added a fresh water holding tank to my boat that allows riders or swimmers to rinse off the salt water before getting in the boat. It is by far the coolest feature and everyone is blown away with it. It also helps those not riding to cool off on the really hot days.

On my 97 PS190 someone spilled a entire cup of summer hummer under the rear seat and neglegted to tell me. Two weeks later all the carpet under the seat was solid black mold. In an attempt to still allow the consumption of adult beverages I now require everyone to use "sippy" cups. I keep at least 6 on the boat and wash them after every use. But for me the shoes/flip flops drives me nuts. Why do you need shoes in a boat? Next would have to be the attempts to bring backpacks abord. I tell them I have clean towels and sunscreen if you need something else besides that let me know I will tell you if I have room for it.

No offense taken, but to a certain extent, I disagree.
It's just boils down to preference and what kind of enjoyment you're looking to get out of the boat. Obviously, there is a point of being so anal that nobody including the anal boat owner can possibly have fun.
But for me and my family, it's never been about food, it's never been about drinks, it's never been about swimming. If it had been, we'd have kept our I/O. It's a tournament ski boat. For us, it's about skiing. The rest of that stuff can be accomplished at the dock or on a pontoon boat.
So a no food no shoes in the boat policy really doesn't take away from the fun factor for us. Just dip your shoes in the water and put them in the side storage area in case we stop somewhere. And until someone else can claim to have had to removed crushed cheetos from the carpet, you can't fully understand.
Drinks are allowed. Spilling drinks is not. The caveat is just a reminder to be careful and not leave the half-full coke cans on the floor. We're going from zero to skiing pretty fast and they aren't going to stay put there.
For the record, the dripping on the carpet and seats doesn't really bother me. It's just water and it isn't one of those things that can be avoided.

The only things that really bother me happen OUTSIDE my boat -- like jet skiers running through the course and people blocking the boat ramp. But I assume most of them are just ignorant and not intentionally being d#%$cks.

Park in the car parking area and get out of your car you lazy jackass! It is hard enough to maneuver a trailer around without idiots down there sightseeing.
...
Arrrgggghhhhh. Last night after skiing, my wife drove me to the boat launch dock so I could get the trailer. One grandfather and his grandson fishing on the dock - which is obviously only there for loading / unloading. One couple in their car pulled nose forward onto the boat ramp. As we pull up, I'm thinking: Can't you guys see the purpose for this dock and ramp? After some hesitation, my wife pulls up and drops me off. The pair on the dock and the car on the ramp both clear out pretty fast. So, in the end, it didn't delay me much.
So...
Slow people at the ramp are my pet peeve. Especially waiting in line behind someone who sits in line watching others unload. Then when it becomes their time and they back close to the water, they've got to pull everything from their vehicle into the boat. Hey dufus, what were you doing the past 5 minutes?
I don't mind obvious newbies, who struggle with backing the trailer and loading the boat; we all had to learn at one time. I do, however, mind those who take their sweet old time at the ramp when others are waiting.
My boat is an '89 in decent, though not stellar shape. Plus I've got 4 and 7 year old daughters. So sand, food and drink don't bother me. However, keep the floor picked up. Help me out with the rope, life jackets, skis, etc.

Just a casual observation: it seems that most of you who do not share our OCD peeves are all fairly new on this site. Stick around awhile and we'll have you converted to our way of thinking. ;)
Just kidding; welcome aboard.
My boat certainly isn't a museum either, but neither is my house, and I don't expect guests to come in and spill food and drinks all over the carpet and then just leave it there, assuming that "since it's a boat it'll probably just clean itself". I allow food and drinks on my boat; we don't have a lake house that we can use for eating, so we have to take everything with us that we'll need for the day. I try to be just as nice as I can to people that go to the lake with us, and if I have to point out a problem, I try to do it as politely as possible. If that doesn't work, I just don't ask them again.
I can't afford to buy a new boat every couple of years, so I'm just trying to take the best care of this one that I possibly can. I bought it new, it's 11 years old, and I'll park it beside any 2-3 year old boat around; it's not perfect but I'm learning to deal with that :).
Everyone has a right to maintain or neglect their boat as they choose, so I certainly don't want to force my OCD-ness on anyone else.
I forgot to mention the girl that brought her clothes bag with her dry clothes and hair dryer on board once (I pointed out that they might get wet in the boat, so she decided to leave them in the car). I also had a friend who brought his wetsuit on board one time, with the wooden hanger still in it (not sure where he planned to hang it?). I jokingly threw the hanger in the water, thinking it would float. It didn't, so I bought him another one.

Bongo
I'm with you man I have no tolerance for idiots. The ramp we go to is an very wide 2 vehicle ramp. Plus their are plenty of docks to tie to. Of course though Bubba and his bass boat or Joe Cool and his jet skis have to pull right down the middle of the ramp or block the ramp by holding onto the dock right next to the ramp. When it comes to this I have little patience. My wife hates it but, if there is room, even a little bit, I will back down right next to them and just stare. We're usually on and off before they are anyway. This just makes me boil though.

I hate that too. Just last weekend we had the drunk lady trying to load the boat on the trailer for the first time while her husband and friends stood around laughing at her scene. Yeah, everyone needs to learn to load the boat, but being drunk and having a storm coming is not the time to learn.
And whats with the j@34@sses on the SeaDoos that like to turn doughnuts right at the ramp?!? I have been using a ramp that does not have a no wake zone but is nicely secluded at the end of a cove. 99% of the time the water is very calm. The 1% it isn't is because of the putz tearing around on a SeaDoo.

I have a pontoon boat on the other side of the dock, which is by the house...so I already have a no food rule. The mastercraft is for going fast and having fun...so no food. My 3 year old is having a real hard time with this one...she is used to bringing chips everywhere. It would be different if we were not always within 10 minutes of our fridge.
I always keep a 2 gallon cooler of icewater on the boat...and other than that its pretty much beer. Cans and bottles are allowed on the floor, I am not too bad about it.
I have only had my mastercraft a month or so, and already here is what KILLS me:
1. Shoes...thats the obvious one. I am looking for a "naked feet only" sticker that may also protect the side of the boat. Any ideas where I can get one?
2. wakeboard or ski fins on the vinyl. Come on, how obvious is that!
3. Having to constantly get out of the drivers seat to do everything while everyone watches in awe of me putting the flippin rope properly on the pylon or tower. It drives me nuts...the same guy will watch me climb out of the drivers seat, take 5' off, and put it back on properly with a hitch while he has the same stupid look on his face. Why cant he just ask...one flibbin time..."show me how to do that so I can help next time". Grrrrr it does not take a genius.
4. People that come over and spend all day on the boat, but then get in a huge hurry when its time to get back in and clean up. I know its legit, they needed to leave at 3:00 and we were having so much fun we pushed the time a little but still, a little courtesy would be nice next time by helping me clean up a little.
5. Pulling boards/skis over the side of the boat. There is no reason for that....use the dang platform...thats what its there for.
6. The complete state of ignorant bliss that is apparent on everyone's face as we pull up to a dock or my lift on a holiday weekend. No bumpers, no ropes, no arms out to help....grrrrr. As I pull up to a dock in 3' chop, and look around at all my regular passengers, they all have this glazed over look and stupid smile. Its like being around a fixed object in a boat mesmerizes them into a state of stupidity.
7. Number one pet peeve....Everyone comes over to go out behind the boat....I have skis, slalom skis, wakeboards in every size, wakeskates, airchairs, you name it....and they always ask for the same thing.... "can you take us tubing?". I say "tubing is for wankers, lets get you up on skis or a wakeboard you will love it"....then..."come on, everyone loves to tube". And so it begins....
Other than that im good:)

I put up with 1 year of everyone wanting to tube behind the boat (last yr, first yr w/the boat). This year I don't even bring it. Anyone asks, I tell them it has a hole in it!
Noone has offered to patch it or buy a new one, however, a few more people have learned to ski/board.

I had this same thing happen to me twice on the 4th.
Younger friends showing up with their bikini clad, over bosomed girlfriends/wives. Of course I offer to take them skiing or whatever. In both cases the males went skiing and the bikini clad girls went as the observer.
Now keep in mind it was the afternoon on the 4th of July and the water was as rough as it gets. Also keep in mind my 82 was designed for smooth water and it does bounce around when it gets rough.
Now how am I as a driver expected to watch out for boat traffic and keep an eye on the skier in the mirror when all I can see out of the corner of my eye is a bouncing over bosomed bikini clad girl?

I think most would agree with me on this.
1. The driver should only have to worry about driving and not much else.
2. The observer "1st mate" should be the one tending the rope, helping with skis, wakeboards in and out of the boat, dock rigging, stowing, and doing what ever else it takes.
3. The skier, wakeboarder or whatever, should do nothing but ski until he is finished with his session, and for god sakes if you notice the rope under the boat tell somebody.
-All these positions rotate back and forth. Things move along well like this-
If it isn't like this, let it go one time, so that someone stumps there toes and smashes there finger it changes there whole perspective.
Robert said - "Its like being around a fixed object in a boat mesmerizes them into a state of stupidity." That's some funny shat right there.
I think Maristar210 has a good point in that people are a little hesitant to step in when they don't know what's going on. Help them understand, but be cool about it and don't get visibly upset when someone on board screws up or the fun will be lost. Most of us have been guilty of this at one point or another - I know I have.
1. Someone's cute lil kid sitting in the observer’s seat, tapping you on the leg, asking questions they already know the answer to.. Are we on a boat? Do you like this boat? Where did you get this boat? Can I drive? Will you play some song, over, and over again? All the while the parent doesn't tell them to hush when I am concentrating on everyone’s safety. Somewhere in time parents felt they didn't need to teach their kids to respect their elders... There's something to be said for the old saying, don't speak until spoken to... be seen not heard.... I'm sure there are a few more... Don't think I'm a kid hater.... There's nothing more fun than getting a little kid up for the first time.... (parents, please don't make the captain school your kid, keep them in control)
2. All 3 or 4 non-skiers who instantly become professional ski instructors, yelling directions to a newbie skier who is trying their best to get up for their first time. And of course when I idle up to them so the skier can hear me, the wankers won't shut up and keeps yapping! Makes me want to pull out my trusty oar and whack em!
3. Anytime I have to get out of the drivers seat to gather the rope, assist in getting the skis out, etc., while others watch...
4. Smokers that will secretly put their butts out in a can that eventually ends up getting the nasty tobacco and beer juice spilled somewhere.
5. Litter from the smoker that tosses the butt in the water... (oar time)
wow, I feel better...

I agree with just about all of this. I use my boat to ski behind. I try to keep it clean, but I know it is going to get dirty. To me it is a tool. I wish someone would make a boat that had a flat wake a good mirror. A drivers seat with a slide that was worth a s-it . Good quality vinyl. Perfect pass and no carpet at all. No seats to have to crawl over to get to the platform or for the rope to stay caught on. I don't need drink holders or any storage. I need a tow boat.
Thats easy enough, right?
Mirror
Perfect pass
seat that will slide

As it's against the rules, bear in mind that I'm not suggesting you buy one, but didn't they try this already with Infinity? Wouldn't sell. Of course, it was probably the cup holders and carpet that messed it up for Infinity. Rob Shirley had a good idea, I thought.
Why won't your seat slide

Sure, we take it out and anchor it sometimes, but some of us can still manage to have a good time even with our shoes off. ;) I'll drink a beer with anyone on here. I'll drink it with you on my boat. But if you fart, I will hit the blower. And if you piss in my bilge, I will rub your nose in it like a bad puppy.

I was out this morning at 6:00am...I am now at work, and I can tell you that my boat is a wreck, coffee cups everywhere, vests laying on everything, water spots on every available inch, and the rope is still hooked onto the pylon.
I don't care! I had a great time with friends. You asked what was a pet peeve, and I think a lot of us took a few minutes to vent...that's all. Its all good, its not like I am going to quit bringing people out.
At least a case of beer gets drank in my boat a week, that is also one of our rules:)
Seriously though, the biggest problem that I have isn't even the tubes, its just that we use the boat every day (thank goodness, I am not complaining here) and it therefore gets filthy. I don't want to spend all of my valuable time cleaning. I have a pontoon boat 20' from my mastercraft with a bbq grill on it...its not that I would mind having a few crumbs in the boat...I just dont want to spend even more time cleaning than I do so somebody can bring their bag of chips in the boat. I bought the pontoon boat to take the food and fat chicks, I blow that thing out once a week with a firehose...it looks like a scene from a prison movie.
I cant believe nobody knows where to get the naked feet only stickers. If we cant find them, I guess I could have them made on a clear vinyl overlay that would act as a protector too. They sell something similar as a transom saver.

Print that page, take it to FastSigns and they will be able to duplicate it without a background. They did my boat numbers and it came out great.
I let shoes travel in the boat, properly stored. If we go to the marina the gravel can get the tenderfoot.

I have two boys, 11 and 14, who are very typical boys. The boys like to bring friends. Hell, so do I. My boat is not a temple, but I do not like to see it abused. The dog comes with us alot (big choc lab) so dog hair gets everywhere.
I keep my boat in nice shape, but it's still a boat. It gets wet. I don't have any problem with water on the cushions or deck pad. It's fun to get out of the water and drip over as many people in the boat as possible! We drink, we party, we eat on the boat. That's what it's for!
After each trip I spend a lot of time cleaning it up. It's my job. Besides, it gets me out of the house...

I think I am going to ask around about the stickers/gunnel protectors. Is anyone else interested if I have some made. I am thinking that it should be about 6" wide, and about 3' long made out of a very thick vinyl, with a smaller "naked feet only" sign in the middle. Nothing too obnoxious. I am looking for protection as much as anything else.

I wouldn't mind having some for the steps on the trailer behind the fenders since at the dock, I don't have a problem. It's all of the loading and pre-boarding before we hit the water that I cringe at.

I think I'll look into the 3m clear stuff that is applied on the noses of expensive cars to protect from rock chips. Seems to me this would work pretty well on the back end of the boat, and on the fiberglass areas where people like to step.

Yea, the 3M stuff is what I was talking about.
My brother in law owns a graphics company that makes wraps for boats/cop cars/giant trucks/etc. They basically buy the clear vinyl in 4' wide rolls, then run it through a huge printer. They can make whatever you want.
I just spoke with him about it, and he said that they make a mat finish floor vinyl that is super thick and heavy duty, that is made for said purpose. I am seeing how much it would be to buy some.
The idea would be to have whatever logo/wording/whatever put down first, then put this over it. It would show through, and when needed you could just peel it off.
Anyway, I will let you know when I find out. A little clear stuff would be great as a wear protector on those high traffic areas.

Yes, that the best solution to scratches on the gunwhales from sand-in-shoes.
I would strongly recommend this stuff. (http://www.aerostich.com/product.php?productid=16210&cat=0&page=2) . It's 7.5 mil and does not have adhesive - it adheres tightly by static alone and is removeable without any residue whatsoever. I use it on the fender of my Harley to preven scratches from the detachachable pillion seat.

The stuff is called Snider's Paintguard. It's 7.5 mil and is applied by wetting the boat surface, peeling off the backing and squeegee-ing out the air bubbles with a credit card or something. There's no adhesive, it can be peeled off and re-applied over and over.
I cut a 12 x 4 inch piece and stuck it on the gunwhale, but I only squeegeed it with my finger. Ran the boat around the lake for about an hour, it stayed on no problem. Kind of a half-a$$ed test, but that plus my experience with it on my motorcycle makes me feel pretty confident that it will stay put.

I have a list of rules (at least one) out there somewhere, so I won't repeat them, but I have to also single out the morons who see boating as the ideal opportunity to get drunk behind the wheel..

Okay all kidding aside.... I actually do have a couple of peeves
1 - Know your hand signals!
2 - Know how to cut out to meet the driver at the end of the course.
3 - If you are using a public slalom course - you better have the know how and supplies required to fix it.
4 - Go to meutral and amaintain a straight path until off of plane when your skier falls. Then turn around at idle and return to the skier up the boat path.
5 - If you are the third, you need a pulse! It is your job to shorten the rope, watch the skier signals, and assist with anything sles that needs to be done. The driver drives, the third does everything else.
6 - If you see another boat skiing a line in calm water -WAIT YOUR TURN! Ever wonder why the water gets rough when you show up....
7 - Tubing is reserved for children and drunk bikini girls and should only be practiced when it is too rough to ski.
8 - GAS or BEER? You must pay for one or the other. I promise you will want to buy the gas.
9- The boat gets wiped down and polished after every use - You ski, You Wipe. No Wipe, No Ski!
Keep in mind that I mainly pull slalom skiers on private or restricted waterways and when I am skiing "for fun" I ski almost exclusively with class c or better tournament skiers. It also deserves noting that give over 200 pulls in a summer season, so little nit picky b.s. that might irritate others is not even worth thinking about.

I agree about the gas situation. If I was out with my family, I would be the only one putting gas in it. If I invite someone, its not because I'm looking for gas money, but rather because I want to hang out with them. They should bring the beer though :)

I have a huge pile of towels, vests & sunscreen as a result of this one.
I live in a shared waterfront community where we have 300' of waterfront, our own docks, slips, ramp, etc. shared between 53 owners. Several of these owners can't keep track of their stuff either. The last 2 summers I've walked around the beach & picked up tons of coolers, towels, toys, suits, bikes, vests, helmets, boards, skis, etc. and throw it all in a pile. About 2 or 3 times a year it gets thrown in the garbage or taken to Goodwill.
I'm amazed that the pile keeps growing & no one complains that their missing anything.

I don't want anyone helping to wipe down the boat, coil ropes, change rope length, or clean up. They always do it wrong. I don't like doritos, because they feel squishy when you step on them on my flooded carpet. I don't like having to tell someone to clean their feet the fourth time. I buy my gas at the station before I hit the marina prices, but I appreciate most brands of beer.
And only one person has ever lit up in my boat. Cut the throttle and turned into the wake. Re-lighting proved more difficult.
edit: Only one thing actually upsets me. It turns me purple to see someone take a beautiful boat and park it outside without a cover. If you invite me on your boat and I see dead leaves in the carpet, I probably won't talk to you for a while.

#1 When my boat is on the trailer and my guests slide the items to be loaded over the gunwales. I saw it once and went ape$hit.
#2 When people pull in the ski rope and drag it over the gunwales... How much more difficult is it to stand up and pull the rope in.
#3 When people leave their trash in the boat after a ski-run or cruise.
#4 Ski ropes left on the ground rather than put in the rope holders
#5 People stepping on the trailer fenders.
#6 People who throw their hats, sunglasses, cd's, t-shirts, etc. on the dash when they go skiing
As for shoes in the boat, I just tell them that it is not allowed 99% of the people listen, the other 1% you leave behind on the dock!!
Why not step on the trailer fenders?

Why not step on the trailer fenders?
My trailer fenders have been wetsanded so they are as glossy as the side of my boat. When people step on them they do two things. First there is a risk of scratching them and second, with their weight, they put stress cracks in the fiberglass where the fenders meet the steps. Many of my friends have the same pet peave with their trailers...

People that bang the boat when putting on skis
People when they are done skiing slide there ski at the boat and always expect you to catch it.
When people climb on the CB and put all their weight on the windshield.
when docking people just sit there and make you do everything.
People dragging in the handle from the observers seat and watch it slide down the boat.
To some extent some people just to boat a lot and when they no what to do they do. Other people try love to help and it is great.

A couple of my biggest pet peves in the boat are when your friends are really hyper and bouncing off the walls. Too much weight on the swim platform, peoples gear hitting the side of the boat, people standing on the fenders of the boat trailer, WHEN THE DRIVER IS DRIVING THE BOAT ON AN EVER-SO ANGLE, WHERE YOU GET THAT CURL IN THE WAKE, AND ITS CRAP!

I do not like the stuff on the dash because it slides around, rattles and looks horrible. What I have done is bought two fiberglass containers for the side of the engine behind the drivers seat. One container holds my ski ropes, gloves, a mask, etc. and the other is empty to throw stuff in when people go skiing. I had the containers upholstered on the top to match my interior, so they look good. These boxes also make an extra seat if I take a few more people than I should and also they are a perfect step for getting in and out of the boat.

• Folks just sitting around like zombies as I pull the boat up to the dock
• How quickly everyone vanishes when its time to wash the boat. (however I prefer the alone time with the boat to wash it myself)
• People not putting their boards back on the rack, “it just too harddddddddd”
• Boards slamming against the side of the boat, “oops! Sorry dude!”
• Slamming the windshield. (kind of a dad thing, like not slamming the door)
I have been boating for 20 years so this stuff just roles off the back but it still hits home when it’s my family members that do it.

PINE NEEDLES................. I hate Pine needles. I've got a few big pine trees close to my dock and the needles are always falling into my boat. Too much hassle to cover it EVERY time I come in so I live with it and vacuum it a lot.
Crazy dogs is another thing, Mine is 15 this year so she is not so crazy anymore, but it drives me nuts when a friend comes up and lets their dog run around like a kid after eating a ton of sugar. Nails puncture the skins!!!!!!!
I had one friend say "don't wory I'll buy you new ones". I thought, 'keep your money and stay home'.
Other than that, beverages are OK for a sunset cruise (land-locked so cops are there only 1 or 2 times a year) and trust, me absolutely no drinking all day then going out like a bunch of yahoos.
Food is 20' away in the cottage, unless we pack for a picnic.
No sand to really worry about, so...

That is a great idea!!!! We always end up stepping on the seat getting into the boat....this would solve that problem. Where did you get them? What a perfect idea!
I wish somebody would make a type of jump seat that goes behind the drivers seat just for this purpose. Seat bottom would lift for storage, but would also be used as a step and extra seat.

Thought long and hard about this. For a while, didn't think I had any pet peeves. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. People can't do anything to the boat that can't be fixed. Then it hit me, I hate when the people that have been bugging you to go out on the boat for months are late to the house or the marina! I can handle about everything else, but when they start taking away from my time on the water, they're lucky I even wait for 'em!

I prefer to stay about 1 mile from any dangerous spot! :D

ET, it will be interesting to see how long you can enforce number 3 and 4 with ET Jr. When my wife is not on the boat, I make my 7 year old eat on the swim platform, but I got the BIG are you out of your stickin mind statement when I suggested that my little Mr. Stick a whole bag of chips in his mouth 3 year old join my daughter on the platform. I guess since SHE isn't the one cleaning up she just doesn't get it?

I stole the boxes from my parents. They used them for their yacht, but you can get them at West Marine. They are used as steps from the dock onto a yacht. My boxes measure 12"Hx12"Wx24"L. They cost about a $100 each. I will try to post a picture soon. I also know that Nautique makes jump seats, but the down side is that they do not provide storage, they cost around $250 and they would need to be reupholstered because they do not match the MasterCraft Vinyl.

We put our MasterCraft Beach Towel on the dash and then our cd's, glasses etc. on top. This prevents the stuff from sliding, prevents scratches on the dash and provides more room on the floor and seats.
I can't stand stuff on the floor unless it is necessary.

It will be interesting. Our sets are usually pretty brief though. In other words, we don't take the boat out for the day and sit on the water too often. We either run to our local lake for a quick set, or are at our out of town lake house where we have a dock and lift.
So our MO is hit the water, ski, return. Food never seems to be in the boat (even with the kid). Of course, I consider bottles of forumla in the drink category. In a couple of years, I may have to eat my words (or use their granddad's boat). ;)

I used a Nautique jump seat for a year or so before building mine. Picked it up for $50 at my local CC dealer used. Reupholstered all white (the N just didn't look right in my boat). It worked fine, but was lower than my o-seat. It was, however, much easier to remove than my new seat. Not that I plan on removing it much. Here's the old seat (which now resides in my father-in-law's 205).

At public launch ramps these people think that it's OK to park in trailer parking spots. Why the sheriff doesn't give parking tickets for that I will never know! That would NEVER happen here on Lanier, especially in the summer time.

You said Debbie was her name in your original post, so have the teacher/coach working with the students on the field, someone she would not know, go out to the track if they spot someone unfamilar and start hollaring "Debbie" and if and or when she answers them, call the police and have them show the police who she is.
