We have been having an issue with our 2000 Mastercraft x5. The majority of the time, during the first startup of the day, then engine will rev and hold at about 1500 rpm, where as normally it would hold at about 600 rpm. When the boat is put into gear the engine rev's return to normal but whenever put back into neutral it will hit about 1500 rpm once again.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Might check the idle air control. Do a search, pretty sure theres a couple of threads out there that tell you how to check it.

My 06 X-1 had the high idle problem (it would hit 1200 rpm sometimes) and it turned out to be a known issue with an idle control module (I can post it up tomorrow or you can do a search on here - that's how I found out what mine was). I had it fixed by the dealer and it worked for a while, but my boat just started doing it again once in a while this week, so it's going back in for another one.

Just found the paperwork on my high idle problem. It was the Throttle Mate that was the problem. $85 part. They covered it under warranty and it worked fine for a while. Have a call in to my dealer to see if I can get another one since the problem has resurfaced. Might have to buy a few the throw in the glove box at this rate.

No idea, dealer did the work. I'm going to ask them if it's something I can do myself this time, as I'm sick of trailering my boat an hour each way for stuff like this.
