View Full Version : Losing Fuel Pressure

I had a fuel pump go bad, 2nd one, not to upset the previous two lasted for about 900 hours. Now I am losing fuel pressure when the boat is turned off just for a couple of minutes. If I turn the key to run then off then run againg effectivily "primimng" the fuel lines it starts right up. If I just go to start it right away it cranks for a long time. Is there some sort of check valve in the fuel pump assembly that I might have screwed up? Oh yeah used a fuel pump from advanced auto.

Exact same problems on my ski partner 06 197 MCX 117 hrs after pump AND HOSE replacement. The hose had a hole in it when we took it out last week.
He choosed to replace with same 2$ hose hoping for another 117 hrs out of it.
Did you reuse the plastic hose or did you replace with something else?
Everything must be leak tight...
My .02 cents...

reused the hose I was going to replace it this week to see if that helped, but wanted to get other thoughts before I tore it all apart again.

Did you use the e2065 or the e2044. I have the exact same issue with the E2065. And I'm 99% sure my hoses were tight and had no holes. Primed great the first day, now not priming so great! That pump is made for escorts and cars with tiny little engines I have come to find out. I'm going to try the E2044.

To be honest I cant remember what I bought. I bought the pump over a year ago and just finally needed it in May. It's not an issue of priming but an issue of holding pressure. I suspect a leak issue some where, just don't know were.

i think if you used an airtex E2065 then you have the same trouble as me. that pump will not maintain the pressure needed as the E2044 will. i will try this weekend and advise all.

I have the e2065, changed out the seal at the bottom of the pump, seemed to take care of the issue last night. The real test will be when I try to start it today, after sitting all night.
