Just bought a new 2010 X14v. I have burned three tanks so far and my perception is that the boat is swallowing fuel. Granted I moved from a PS190 so I understand that the extra 1200 lbs will provide a decrease in hours per/gallon. I have also read some pretty scientific explanations of burn rate etc. deeper in the forum.

Considering all of this, can anyone give me some feedback on what you are experiencing? For me, three tanks under my belt I have averaged 8.75 gallons per/hour. This is a mix of wakeboarding, waterskiing and cruising.

Thank you for the perspective.

I have and X1, RTP engine that is approx 5 gallons per hour with similar usage.

Almost 9 gal/hr seems like you're workin' the motor pretty good.
My MCX definately burns waaay more than my LT-1 190 did. Never cared enough to calc it accurately, but in my use (same with both boats), the LT-1 was about 4 gal/hr and the MCX is around 7gal/hr in an X2.

Thanks for the feedback. Coincidentally I came from an LT-1 as well. Burning nearly 9 gallons an hour brings your day to a close really quickly.

Sounds pretty high. I usually get about 4 hrs of use from a tank. Given that the most I have ever put into my tank is less than 25 gallons, I'd say I burn about 5-6 gallons per hour. 9gph seems a bit high.

What altitude are you running at?

What speed are you running at 3000 rpms?

What prop do you have?

My Crusader 6L on my CSX, which is way heavier than yours only does around 6 gal/hour.. that does seem high.

I have an 08 MCX in a X-star. With moderate ballast (1600lbs) we are averaging 5.6 GPH. I track GPH closely all year as a monitor of whether the engine is performing correctly. Like any motor, the fuel efficiency of my MCX improved with time. But even new, I was burning around 6.5 to 7 GPH. Did your fuel efficiency improve after the 10 hour oil change?

I assume you are going by the amount of gas you added and are topping it off each time? I mention that only because my fuel level sensor is WAY OFF and has been since day one. Burning 10 gallons of fuel from a topped off 53 gallon tank will drop it from full to 1/2 a tank.

I have an 08 DD X14 with the RTP and had the same gas guzzeling issue. I put on a new ACME 13X12.625 and saw a dramatic drop in fuel consumption without hardly any noticable performace change.

I have an MCX on a 2008 PS 214 (your platform) and your numbers seem high ... I hope you are not going by your gauge since mine (and others, since I am on my 3rd sensor) seem to indicate rapid fuel consumption but when I look at the tank and also the gallons at fill up, I have not really ever gone below half a tank.

4-5 GPH is my guess based on our morning slalom, late morning boarding, afternoon tubing, and some cruising .... around 100 hours on my motor. Good luck.

I have an MCX in my 2005 Prostar 197TT and it seems after a good 3 hours or so on the water I have just a tad bit over a half a tank left.....

I always figured for the horsepower this motor produces (350HP) it was very economical.....

Yes, I am measuring based on fuel added / hour meter. I just had my 10 hour service done. I will continue to monitor and see what happens. Thank you very much for the feedback.

Enough about GPH. How does she ski???:)

Skiing is good. Clearly a bigger wake than the PS190; however, it is very soft. I have learned very quickly that I am not on 'edge' enough on my wake crossing, so it is pushing me pretty hard to make some adjustments.

If you have 1200 pounds of water in addition to passengers and everything else, there's no way it's going to be efficient. The throttle position is higher under that load and it needs to push against more wetted surface when it sits lower. Contact MC and ask if they have any recalibration programs for this application.

Have a MCX in my 2007 X30. I average about 5-6 gallons per hour while cruising, boarding, tubing.

With how much added weight?

That is usually without ballast, just 8-12 bodies, some of which are children. Do my numbers seem to optimistic? I have decided to start keeping a log and watch it more closely going forward.

Not optimistic, but for the comparison to be more valid, we need to compare similar loads. If he has 6-8 people plus 1200 pounds of ballast, he's likely to use more gas than you with 8-12 people of similar weight to your bodies.

The measurement of 8.75 gallons per/hour was done with an average of only 2 people in the boat, no ballast used (we were skiing very early with no other boats). The tail end of our day we picked up an additional two persons for a total of four. We did fill the ballasts for about 15 minutes of wake surfing.

The extra 1200 lbs I am referring to is the difference in dry weight between my former 1997 PS190 and the new X-14v.

Is it the OEM prop, or has that been re-worked in a way that increased the pitch or cup? What is the top RPM you can hit?

Thats a pretty cool mod.

Wouldnt be very usefull in the US as we dont have lpg at every corner gas station like you guys do on the other side of the pond

No, but you can get it at any U-Haul store and many other outlets.

It is the prop that came with the boat. It is only two weeks old at this point with 13 ish hours on the engine.

I am not sure of the RPM range. We rarely run above 34 35 mph.

Tried out the ACME 13X12.5 4 blade prop on the X-14 this weekend. Easier to maintain speed with boat loaded down.
