My dealer says that these would be considered "Gell Damage" which only has a one year warranty. They claim that they are no longer allowed to use some compound so every boat manufacter is going with only a one year warranty. I can't believe MC wouldn't cover this on a 2008 boat. Has anyone else heard of this?

Spider cracks are cracks in the gelcote. They usually don't just appear without some underlying trauma to the area, even as insignificant as a rough impact while trailering or unexpected jarring from another boat wake. To happen on a 2008 is painful. It is an expensive repair that involves grinding the damaged area to the glass, repairing the glass (if needed), applying new gelcote and finishing.

Some are by the gas cap and the others are around the cup holders in the bow. So do you guys think this should be covered?

All depends on how big the Beers were being squeezed in the cup holders...:D Wouldnt
hurt to see if its covered but I wouldnt be spending big bucks for a fix on something that small...

i would think they should be covered. i had them around the front tower mounts and under the playpen area when i had my 05 supra. the dealer fixed them under warranty in 07. sold the boat and bought my 07 x2. to date i have no cracks at all.

fiberglass can flex if not properly supported. Gel coat is vert brittle and does not flex. thus, cracks.

***! on such a new boat. On my 20 year old boat it called character!

Good luck,

Matt

Around cup holders??? They are usually found around tower mounts/windsheilds, etc.

I would bring it in to the dealer and try but at least have them document it (location, size, etc.) then keep the documentation for your records just in case others start to appear. I doubt they would warranty at this point but if they keep appearing and growing it is possible there was a mis-application during the process.

I cant say I blame the short warranty period, espeically if they are around the tower mounts because they have no idea what you have been doing to, or with, the tower. Ditto with the windsheild as for all they know, you could enjoy crashing into wakes.

I do not think any manufacture covers gel more than one year

Yeah, I would assume tower or windshield but my places are odd. Well its worth a shot, all they can say is no.
