I'm in need of a starter for my 1994 ps 190 with the indmar 350.
Do I need a marine grade starter?
My local dealer told me to go to Napa or Baxters. I don't think they carry marine grade starters.
Where would I find a marine grade starter?

I need to replace the starter in my 87 too, and I had the same question. Does it need to be a marine starter?

NAPA has a whole catalog of marine parts but the guys at the counter need to know about them. Yes, it needs to be marine- these have spark suppression built in so the bilge gases don't go boom.

Yes, it needs to be a marine starter. Go to MJ Rebuilders, on 124th St, a little South of Silver Spring. They probably have what you need, already rebuilt. That's the only place I go for starters or alternators.

Just North of MKE. I worked for a MC dealer that was in Butler until we moved it to Pewaukee and they had a completely unnecessary management meltdown.

You can get a new one or have the one on there rebuilt. I just had one rebuilt pretty quickly. Seems like it is a rather easy job for a good marine mechanic. Mine was and ARCO 70125. I have a 93 Prostar with the 285hp 351. Like JimN said - you do need a marine starter - you could get by with an automotive one, have heard people do that - but I am not running that risk with my boat.

I'll try NAPA tonight and also see if I can find someone that rebuilds starters.

Thanks for the help!

Found it at NAPA. P/N 18-5902 for 253.98.
It's installed and I'll give it the real test on a three day weekend next weekend.

Thanks for the all the help!

Hey Guys !! Just had to repalce my starter on MC 190, 1994.
Maine starter is right way to go for safety.
Found it at SKIDIM.COM
These folks at SKIDIM are fantastic. Helpful and reliable.

I have used them for a bunch of parts for my MasterCraft 190. She runs like a champ!!
