Never bothered before until yesterday. This is what happened. Had wakeboarders out all day and the perfect pass set. Then skier wanted a pull. So as always never say no. So I started out with him and relized the perfect pass was set. I quickly shut it off and powered up with skier still up. The pull went good then after the drop off and rope pulled in the throttle went soft. Had to push long ways to enguage. So up the swimdeck went and in i went. I noticed the cable was sloppy. Traced to the back side of engine and was connected to a knob. I turned the knob clockwise and the cable came tight. Then ran perfect. Is this a saftey device when the drive has a mental block? Or something more serious that I should look at/into

I am not certain, based on your post, but it sounds as though you turned the PP on or off while the boat was in gear - towing a skier. If that is the case, then that is the problem. PP should only be turned on or off while in neutral.
