View Full Version : Loss of power, smoky exhaust

Ok, so this spring I had my engine decide to warp the heads when the engine got a little hot. I had the heads decks (.008) of an inch. When the heads were in for decking, I also had the engine machine shop do the valves because they said they were in need. After putting the engine back together and running it I am getting a lot of smoke out of my exhaust. HTe boat seemed to run fine though other than that. THen tonight I went out with friends and after about an hour of boarding and wakeskating, I decided to barefoot. The boat would only run 37-38 MPH wide out. Use to run close to 45mph. I only had two guys in the boat and no extra weight. Any engine gurus have any suggestions for me.

What color smoke?

After you had the head work done did you set or check your lifter preload?

White smoke.

Lifter pre-load was set but I am going to check that again. the budlight may have caused me to goof a few up.

white smoke? on autos that is antifreeze, usually from a bad head gasket
