Just got off the water after a nice day of skiing and knee boarding with my kids. My wife purchased the knee board from Overton's about a month ago. When we pulled the board out of the water some water had gotten into the board. You could hear it moving around and slowly leaked out. This board was not expensive (Hydro Slide, Pro X LT).
Two questions, First, should there be water in the board, pretty sure the answer is no. Second, if money was no object what is the best kneeboard out there for jumping the wake?

Two questions, First, should there be water in the board, pretty sure the answer is no. Second, if money was no object what is the best kneeboard out there for jumping the wake?1st: no, but.... it happens sometimes if water gets under the knee pad or at least that was the case for me. I don't know where to say it got inside of the board but it did, and drained slowly.
2nd) The boards can run up into the money and I personally don't use one that often to justify it. I haven't researched the top boards but I'm betting someone here may chime in. My basic philosophy is that one gets what ya' pay for (sad but true more often than not). As for a family shared board, I wouldn't want one with tracking fins but for myself as an aggressive boarder (which I'm not), the retractable fins may be for that level.... Thus more gadgets, more money....

Yes, water in the board isn't right. I have 2 kneeboard, both O'Brien that I got off eBay shipping and all for less than $40 a piece. They are a big hit w/ the kids.

Here's one:

My kids have been using kneeboards for the past 10 years. We have 3 and my friend has 4. Some are more prone to get water in them than others, but most seem to do it.

As for the best or top of the line kneeboards, I would have to say that varies with the individual. We have an HO Joker that my one son loves while my other son would rather ride our O'Brien Airageous.

Never heard of or had water in my boards. That seems like a problem to me. Look at several and you will notice some are thin and some are thick. I prefer the thinner boards because I think they are easier to ride once your up. I have a H.O. board that is one solid piece. I am guessig your board is a thick one and has a seem in the middle. Probably the source of the water as I am sure you have already guessed.

In my opionion you need 2 boards. One for the people that have no propblem getting up, thin profile. The other for small kids, that are learning to ride, thick profile. The thick will float better with weight on it. You can just put a kid on it, in position, and no learning curve of getting up. Instant fun. Stay away from the retractable fins. Just a sales gimmick. And a place for water to get in. I have the obrien magic rt, (yea I know, it has retractable fins, thats why I know too stay away from them) but it floats real well. I have put a small 15 yr old on it, in position. They had to do a balancing act though. I rode several thin profiles before my son and I decided on the Ho Joker. The O'Brien Airageous was a close 2nd. We liked the comfort of the joker. You need to shop around on the joker. Man what a price range on this board. The airageous has a stable price range. (2yrs ago when I bought mine, now?)

I'll throw in a plug for the HO Joker at this point.

Shoot we've been using an HS revolution that we got for free. We are getting back into kneeboarding after a long absence. already looking for another. I really like the looks of an airagous or a lowrider. I just want something that lands easy.

HO Joker, and the OBRIEN Lowrider are probably the best out there. Lots of padding, and good pop on the wake.
Obrien Airageous is also good.
they are solid, with no cavities to get water in.

People still ride kneeboards?
