View Full Version : Salvage Boats
Does anyone know what happens when insurance companies total a boat? Surely there is a place to purchase used parts for a 2008 PS197.

We got our 94 ps 190 as a salvage out of houston texas. A boat hoist had fallen on it in a storm which shattered the spotter window and caused very minimal fiberglass damage. A little fiberglass handy work and some get coat, no one can tell where the damage once was. Got it from a nautique dealership, they held onto the boat for parts. Luckily I offered them $2500 before they parted it out..Even more lucky was that jim at BAWS had a used window kicking around in storage, at a fraction of the cost of having a custom window made... I found the boat on kijiji, after giving up on trying to find a good source for salvage boats on the web.

I was also looking for boats that were being parted out. I can't get a glass for my 93 prostar. I can have one made but it is really high. I have been tossing around the idea of putting plexi in mine.

yes those windows are very hard to come by. As I remember we were quoted $4000 for a custom made window. We considered plexi but decided it just wouldn't look rite. I think we ended up paying 700.00 for the window + a crazy hi price for shipping.

It depends on what happened to the boat...
When I totaled my 93 a year ago the fiberglass damage was extensive enough that they just wrote the whole thing off. They took it to auction and someone got a helluva deal on a refurbed trailer and the parts. There was nothing wrong with the engine, trans, drive shaft, prop, rudder, etc. Another option would be to ask your dealer about any boats being turned in. I tried to buy mine and sell it back to the dealership for parts. If I remember correctly insurance wanted $1500 for everything.
In case you were also curious, after the boat is stripped, the fiberglass hull is steamrolled and taken to a landfill. That's a sad end for an MC
Good luck!
