I have a 88 Tristar, 351 motor. Which cyclinder is #1, front port side or front star side?

Front starboard side right behind the drivers seat.

Fantastic.

The Manual states 10 degrees if you have a certain color cap and 6 degrees BDTC if you have the other color cap.

Mine's a Screw down cap, now it's black but I'm pretty sure it was Tan.

Also 600 RPM at idle in Gear, how does one do that in the Driveway without burning up the prop shaft or bushings?

Set it to 10 degrees in neutral at 800 RPM. That will get you real close. I made a final check on the water and mine was right where I wanted it.

It's the first one :D:

Putting it in gear in the driveway won't do you any good because it won't be under load. Best to do it on the water.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info.

Hopefully my old timing light will do the trick.

These guys have got you covered - my '76 has all the cyl numbers cast into the intake manifold just above the intake ports, go figure?
