I have a 2006 X2 with the 4 interior speakers, 2 tower speakers, and a sub. Not sure what happened, but after a rough, wet day on the water, I'm getting a huge amount of distortion. After some time on the phone with JL Audio Tech Support, it sounds like my amp is blown.
Since this one is 4 years old, and I need to spend about $500 no matter what, I'm looking for some input on what to buy.

go to www.exileaudio.com and look at there marine speakers. I just removed all of my Clarion stock stuff and put in Exile Audio Marine AMPs, 12" SUB with custom enclosure, SX65c Cabin Speakers, XM7 HD Speakers on the tower, all new wiring, and new Kenwood iPod deck.

You will not be dissapointed. Exile designs and engineers everything at its HQ in Lake Oswego OREGON.

2004 X-2, MCX, Exile Sound System......Go Green Bay Packers! lol!

If it was a rough, wet day, it probably got water in it. You might think about moving it so water will never be a problem unless the boat gets swamped.

So what was the 6600 pushing? all 6 speakers? 4+ sub? Tower +sub?
A new 6600 can be had for $300 if the old one was sufficient for you.
One JL 7.7 speaker will handle 2 channels bridged to it easily....and much louder, fyi.
For $500 or less you could get a new 6600 and a separate CL D amp for the sub.

Alpine PDX amps are incredible.

Just had an Alpine PDX-F6 installed on my X-star.......awesome!!!
It powers my 4 JL tower speakers and my JL sub. (the girls like sitting behind the driver's seat!)

I like your idea Thrall!! I just bought a new 6600 for $329, it was the best deal I could find. Do you have a similar setup?

I've got a Boston GT-28 pushing 4 JL tower speakers. It's 450W/ch @ 2ohms (4 spkrs paralleled off of 2 ch amp). It came with the Boston sub in the boat. It's a little overkill for the speakers, got it turned down some. A JL 6600 running the 4 JL cockpit spkrs. 1:1 to the front speakers and 2:1 bridged to the rear speakers. A JL e1800DM runs the 12" sub.

I think that's the same as I paid for my 6600 and the 1800 was about $300 as well, but you could find a class D sub amp for much less. I was shooting for the "do it once and do it right" theme, but with some careful shopping and some wheeling and dealing, I got the 2 JL amps, 2 more tower speakers, added battery and all the wiring, dist blocks, charging relay, etc for about $1300. Took a while to acquire everything though.

Just learned of a shipping delay on the amp I bought. Where can I get one for $329?
