2004 Maristar 230 with MCX, brand new...7 hours. It's been running fine, but then I noticed earlier today that the boat would periodically sag by a few hundred RPMS every now and then while running - all throttle positions, but initially mostly at mid-to-full throttle. Then it started happening on accelleration, then tonight the engine died while idling along. I let it sit for a few minutes, it started and ran just fine...for awhile. Then it died again a hundred feet from my dock. Finally got it in.

Temp was normal, oil pressure fine. No check engine light. No hoses, clamps or intakes loose on the engine. This started happening when I was about 1/2 way through the first tank of gas. The gauge now reads 1/3 tank.

Obviously this will fall into the dealer's lap - they're open tomorrow I think, so it will be interesting to see how they're going to make this right without totally screwing up the holiday season.

Does anybody NOT think this sounds like a fuel pump problem?

Sounds like fuel filter to me.

Doh!...You're right, of course. And that would make a lot more sense for a new boat than fuel pump.

Where is that little sucker? Is it the silver thing attached at the forward end of the left fuel rail?

I would guess something in the ECM. Just a guess, let us know what he finds, should be able to read the computer to see what is going on.

As it turns out, it was the fuel pump. I took it in this morning - my dealer, C&C Boat Works (http://www.ccboatworks.com/main.html) in Cross Lake, Minnestota, is open on Sundays with a small sales staff for water toys and stuff. He felt awful, told me he'd have it diagnosed and repaired by tomorrow noon. As it turns out, he was able to get one of his service techs in today. They found that the fuel pump had died, pulled a pump out of a 2005 they had on the floor and got it running, all in about 4 hours.

Man, that's about all a guy could hope for in a dealer's dedication to customer service.

BTW, I note that they have a couple of new 2004 X-10s they're selling for less than $47,000...
